The Role: Network Infrastructure Technician II This role installs, maintains, and troubleshoots the physical network infrastructure used by Switch and its customers. You support service-impacting events and day-to-day requests in a 24/7/365, mission-critical environment. The work is hands-on, detail-driven, and focused on keeping customer connectivity reliable and well-documented.

Requirements

  • Sound judgment when troubleshooting issues and escalating incidents.
  • Hands-on experience installing and supporting network cabling and physical infrastructure.
  • Working knowledge of CAT3, CAT5, and CAT6 copper cabling.
  • Working knowledge of single-mode and multi-mode fiber.
  • Familiarity with ANSI and TIA/EIA cabling standards.
  • Basic understanding of transport circuits such as T1 and DS3.
  • Basic understanding of network fundamentals and common hardware platforms.
  • Experience troubleshooting layer 1 connectivity issues.
  • Comfort working with field-replaceable units and standard data center equipment.
  • Ability to use ticketing, documentation, and tracking systems.
  • Basic computer, typing, and email skills.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Install, terminate, maintain, and troubleshoot copper, fiber, and coax cabling, including patch panels and cable management systems.
  • Install cabling support structures such as cable tray, ladder rack, J-hooks, and related hardware.
  • Perform circuit installations, activations, migrations, and disconnects.
  • Test and certify cabling using standard tools and procedures.
  • Use company-provided test equipment, including cable certifiers, OTDRs, tone and probe, and network testers.
  • Create and maintain accurate design layout records in a web-based system.
  • Provide remote hands support for customer-owned equipment in Switch facilities.
  • Install, replace, and troubleshoot standard data center hardware, including PDUs, switches, routers, optics, drives, and memory.
  • Escort vendors and support on-site work as required.
  • Respond to and remediate service-impacting alerts using established procedures.
  • Perform quality checks on completed infrastructure work.
  • Support customer requests such as circuit turn-ups, down-circuit troubleshooting, and infrastructure validation.
  • Document all work clearly and completely in ticketing and tracking systems.
  • Follow escalation and notification procedures using sound judgment.
  • Participate in facility decommissions and infrastructure removals.
  • Work scheduled shifts that support 24/7/365 operations.
