About The Position

The job of Network Engineer is done for the purpose/s of supervising, supporting, and monitoring the district’s network infrastructure to ensure a secure, stable, and high-availability environment that meets both instructional and operational needs. The position is accountable for day-to- day network operations, analyzes and resolves complex technical issues, and applies operational measures to optimize system performance. The Network Engineer provides technical leadership in areas such as network security, disaster recovery, and cloud integration, while collaborating with administration and technology staff on infrastructure planning. The role also ensures timely communication of network events and facilitates technology infrastructure training to support the safe and efficient operation of network systems across all school sites.

Requirements

  • KNOWLEDGE is required to perform advanced math; review and interpret highly technical information, write technical materials, and/or speak persuasively to implement desired actions; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: current, legacy and emerging operating systems; environments and network protocols; router configurations; Inter/Intranet applications; data security, project management, processes and methodology.
  • SKILLS are required to perform multiple, highly complex, technical tasks with a need to routinely upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: utilizing pertinent network, application, operating system monitoring and troubleshooting software; adhering to safety practices; planning and managing projects; and preparing and maintaining accurate records.
  • ABILITY is required to schedule a significant number of activities, meetings, and/or events; routinely gather, collate, and/or classify data; and consider a wide variety of factors when using equipment. Flexibility is required to independently work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; analyze data utilizing a variety of complex processes; and utilize equipment under a variety of conditions for multiple purposes.   • Job related experience within specialized field with increasing levels of responsibility is required.
  • Bachelors degree in job related area.
  • or minimum of 5 (five) years design, implementation and support experience with Cisco and Juniper devices in an enterprise class data network and support for high availability environment; Supervisory experience.

Responsibilities

  • Applies and utilizes various operational measurements and analytics for the purpose of maintaining a robust network to meet operational needs.
  • Assists in the development of eligible projects (e.g. plan and coordinate technology needs with E-rate funding opportunities, gathering supporting documentation, etc.) for the purpose of securing federal funding and supporting the district's long-term infrastructure goals.
  • Automates recurring IT tasks with scripting (i.e. Bash, PowerShell) (e.g. system inventory, data uploads/downloads, user management, and backups, etc.) for the purpose of enhancing efficiency and reducing manual intervention.
  • Communicates events, activities, upgrades, and information to relevant stakeholders (e.g. infrastructure events, maintenance activities, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring timely and accurate dissemination of updates through appropriate communication channels, keeping all district staff and school sites informed and ensuring safety while minimizing disruption.
  • Creates and maintains templates and documentation of network changes (e.g. migration to new systems; scheduling installations, product research, etc.) for the purpose of delivering services in compliance with established guidelines and/or objectives.
  • Develops and maintains disaster recovery and business continuity plans, including regular testing and backup verification for the purpose of minimizing downtime and ensuring the continuity of instructional and operational services in the event of disruption.
  • Establishes structured management practices for network infrastructure updates, upgrades, and maintenance for the purpose of minimizing service disruptions and maintaining operational stability.
  • Facilitates training and technical guidance for technology staff on network-related systems, best practices, and procedures for the purpose of promoting proper usage, enhancing digital safety, and ensuring efficient use of network resources.
  • Manages and integrates cloud-based infrastructure and services (e.g. Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Azure, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring secure, scalable, and reliable access to digital resources and collaboration tools.
  • Monitors network performance using diagnostic tools and analytical reporting for the purpose of proactively identifying issues, optimizing network resources, and informing leadership decisions.
  • Plans, organizes, and manages the Network Infrastructure Team staff and activities for the purpose of ensuring their ability to use new and/or existing operating systems and application software.
  • Prepares written materials (e.g. detailed network infrastructure diagram and documentation, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference, and/or conveying information.
  • Recommends equipment, supplies and materials for the purpose of acquiring required items and completing jobs efficiently.
  • Researches, plans, and recommends technology improvements and upgrades to administration for the purpose of recommending procedures and/or purchases.
  • Responds to inquiries from a variety of sources (e.g. staff, administrators, school site personnel, service providers, etc.) for the purpose of providing technical assistance and support.
  • Supervisors, supports, and monitors systems and servers related to district LAN and WAN for the purpose of ensuring availability of services to authorized users.
  • Supports the Network Analyst Team in the maintenance of the district- wide information infrastructure by providing technical expertise (e.g. core network operations, data backups and storage, data center (power, cooling security, space), email, firewall and remove access, network security, services management, voice over IP (Cisco UC), wireless networks (Cisco Meraki), etc.) for the purpose of ensuring efficient operations.
  • Troubleshoots and provides expert support for malfunctions of network hardware and/or software applications within the district's local and wide area networks, telephones and security systems (e.g. servers, hubs, routers, network protocols, etc.) for the purpose of resolving operational issues and restoring services.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the department.
