Position Summary Reporting to the Assistant Director Network Engineering, the Network Engineer provides network and voice system installation, problem determination, resolution, configuration, and needs analysis to support the use of technology by faculty, staff, and students. The engineer provides support for all aspects of the various University data center facilities and communications closets. The engineer works with other staff including application development and security. This position may require occasional evening, weekend, and holiday hours. Essential Functions Implements cutting-edge technologies designed by the infrastructure team, ensuring seamless integration and alignment with organizational objectives. Configures network switches, VPNs, optical hardware, and Software-Defined Networking ( SDN ) systems to optimize performance and security across the network infrastructure. Conducts research on emerging technologies to support data, Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), conferencing systems, and WiFi, providing insights and recommendations for future technology adoption. Deploys wireless network infrastructures and provides recommendations for system enhancements to ensure optimal operation and coverage across campus. Recommends IT solutions to address business and management challenges, leveraging technical expertise to enhance operational efficiency and meet organizational needs. Provides support for the university’s building management systems, collaborating with stakeholders to ensure seamless integration and functionality. Acts as a functional expert, planning and executing major aspects/components of projects, and providing technical guidance and expertise to team members to ensure successful project delivery.
