About The Position

CUAnswers is seeking a Network Engineer to support and strengthen our network and systems environment while collaborating closely with the VP of Network Infrastructure, Network Engineering team members, and other internal teams such as Client Support & Operations, Computer Operations, and Client Services. This role will also serve as an escalation point for network/system issues and will help lead internal and external projects from management handoff through completion. This is a second shift position working 3:00pm-12:00am. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong independent judgment, the ability to assess complex situations, manage competing priorities, and make informed decisions that align with organizational goals.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required (Equivalent experience: 2–3 years in IT)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work with internal teams and external clients professionally
  • Ability to learn new software/tools independently
  • Ability to travel to client sites and other locations (auto/plane) as needed
  • Valid driver’s license with insurable driving record required
  • Network fundamentals
  • Ping, Traceroute, Tcpdump, Wireshark
  • DNS, SMTP, HTTP, SSH
  • OSI model, NAT, firewall concepts
  • Routing (static/dynamic), Switching (STP/VLAN)
  • VPN technologies, TCP vs UDP
  • Microsoft fundamentals
  • Active Directory, Group Policy, file system permissions
  • DNS/DHCP, IIS, Exchange Server, SQL Server
  • Microsoft 365, Entra ID, Intune, Defender/Security
  • Exchange Online, OneDrive, SharePoint
  • Email systems, SSL certificates, antivirus tools
  • Backup technology, cloud services
  • VMWare/Hyper-V
  • Multi-factor authentication (MFA)

Nice To Haves

  • Two-year business-related degree preferred (or equivalent experience)
  • CUBASE experience is a plus (not required)

Responsibilities

  • Design, install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot network devices
  • Support managed client LANs, WANs, and servers
  • Configure and troubleshoot Linux servers and related applications
  • Configure and troubleshoot Windows servers and related applications
  • Maintain strong security and audit compliance across the CUAnswers network
  • Serve as an escalation path for troubleshooting and support efforts
  • Lead assigned projects to completion and create project documentation (including troubleshooting and DR procedures)
  • Evaluate technology solutions and recommend new tools/services
  • Maintain applicable vendor certifications to support partner status
