The Network Engineer is responsible for the ongoing support and maintenance of NJM’s Enterprise Network, ensuring its reliability and performance. Collaborating closely with IT infrastructure and operations teams, this position will play a critical role in delivering stable and efficient network services that support the organization’s technology needs.

  • Network Operations and Support Maintain LAN/WAN and Data Center Infrastructure Components
  • Maintain cabling infrastructure for phone and data network
  • Create reusable configuration templates to standardize the deployment of network devices and features
  • Perform network asset management tasks, including device inventory, lifecycle management, and documentation of technical specifications
  • Maintain disaster recovery network infrastructure and participate in annual DR Exercise
  • Perform network device OS upgrades and system patching to maintain appropriate security, vendor support, and feature sets
  • Monitor ticketing queues and respond to outstanding requests and other assigned work orders
  • Monitoring and Reporting Generate usage, availability, and performance report for management consumption
  • Generate and analyze usage reports for capacity planning
  • Availability and health monitoring for network infrastructure components
  • Maintain network monitoring tools to optimize monitoring capabilities
  • Effectively Troubleshoot and Resolve Network Related Issues Act as an escalation point for Service Desk and other level 1 support groups to troubleshoot network related issues.
  • Provide 24x7 off hours support as a part of a rotating on call schedule to respond to fault alarm and escalation from level 1 support teams
  • Capture and analyze network packet traces to support troubleshooting efforts
  • Networks Security Operations Evaluate published security advisories and remediate security vulnerabilities consistent with NJM Patch Management Program
  • Validate device configurations for security best practice for network infrastructure
  • Maintain identify management platform to control access to the corporate wireless network
  • Maintain SSL client VPN infrastructure to securely connect employees to the corporate network
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in Information Technology
  • Minimum of 1 years of experience maintaining a mid-size enterprise network infrastructure
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent work experience required
  • Network vendor or industry certifications such as CCNA/CCNP or Network+ are considered a plus
  • Self-starter that can work independently or as part of a team
  • Desire to learn new technologies and adapt as the landscape changes
