Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (EE), Computer Science (CS), or equivalent technical field is required.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience as an L2 Network Engineer working with campus and corporate networks (required).
  • Minimum 1 year of experience working with Cisco TAC on troubleshooting and RMA processes (required).
  • Minimum 1 year of experience working with ServiceNow (required).
  • Minimum 1 year of experience working with SolarWinds (required). May be substituted with 3 years of experience with other network monitoring and management tools.
  • Demonstrated experience in designing and implementing network solutions in a medium to large-scale enterprise environment.
  • Knowledge of Cisco devices: Catalyst switches, ISR routers, and ASR routers (required).
  • Knowledge of Cisco switch stacking technology, configuration, and troubleshooting (required).
  • Knowledge of routing protocols EIGRP, OSPF, and BGP: configuration and troubleshooting (required).
  • Knowledge of DNS and DHCP: configuration and troubleshooting (required).
  • Proficient understanding of networking principles, including TCP/IP, switching technologies (e.g., VLANs, STP), and wireless networking.
  • Strong knowledge of network security principles and practices, including firewall configurations, VPNs, and intrusion detection systems.
  • Active Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification (very desirable).
  • Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) certification (preferred).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Leadership skills and the ability to mentor and develop junior staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a remote setting (required).
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings or weekends, to support network maintenance and upgrades.
  • Ability to lift and move network equipment up to 50lb as needed.
  • Ability to pass SDPD (San Diego Police Department) background check is required. Candidates must have no: arrests, convictions (other than traffic violations), recent losses of civil lawsuits in court, protective orders, or recent bankruptcy.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Cisco Catalyst 9800 WiFi controller configuration and troubleshooting (very desirable).
  • Knowledge of Cisco Catalyst Center (DNAC) (very desirable).
  • Additional certifications such as CompTIA Network+, CompTIA Security+, or other relevant networking certifications.
  • Experience with network automation and scripting (e.g., Python, Ansible).
  • Familiarity with cloud networking solutions and services (e.g., AWS, Azure).
  • Working knowledge of searching data and creating reports in Splunk

Responsibilities

  • Design, configure, and manage network infrastructure, including routers, switches, and wireless access points, to ensure optimal performance and security.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex network issues, providing technical expertise and support to the IT team.
  • Implement and enforce network security measures, including firewall configurations, VPNs, access lists, and intrusion detection systems.
  • Monitor network performance and conduct regular assessments to identify areas for improvement.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support network-related projects and initiatives.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of network configurations, changes, and procedures.
  • Mentor and provide guidance to junior network engineers and support staff
  • Stay current with emerging networking technologies and industry best practices.
