About The Position

Operator Services is a functional organization within RF Connect which focuses on solutions for Private Wireless Networks, Neutral Host Networks and Signal Source as a Service supporting traditional DAS deployments. As our Network Engineer, you will design and construct new network architectures on WAN, LAN, and 3GPP technology stacks to support various types of networks including LAN, Wi-Fi, Cellular, and Private Wireless Networks (PWN). You will be involved in the installation, monitoring, maintenance, support, and optimization of all network hardware, software, and communication links. You will troubleshoot network issues, provide end-user training, and offer technical leadership for wireless connectivity solutions. You'll be accountable for the overall infrastructure, including engineering, implementation, integration, and support, and will mentor others to establish and enhance processes and procedures. Demonstrating core values such as respect, teamwork, integrity, and safety is essential. This role can potentially be virtual (within the USA), but preferred candidates will work from our Farmington Hills, MI office, and will report to the General Manager of Operator Services. You should be able to work productively in a remote and independent setting and be within commuting distance of a major airport for travel needs.

Requirements

  • At least four (5) years of experience in support and/or engineering wireless network systems.
  • At least two (2) years of experience in role having architectural and operational responsibility for wireless network systems.
  • Proven experience and success with LAN architecture & deployments, Wi-Fi and Private Wireless Network design and implementation, deployments.
  • Wireless Networking protocols: Proficiency in wireless networking protocols such as IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax, TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, etc.
  • Familiarity with LTE and 5G technology and related components (eNodeB, EPC, etc.)
  • Configuration and Management: Hands-on experience with configuring and managing wireless infrastructure components, including access points, controllers, and network management systems.
  • Performance Optimization: Skills in optimizing wireless network performance through techniques such as channel planning, roaming optimization, and Quality of Service (QoS) configuration.
  • Analyze wireless subsystem requirements (including but not limited to RF, PHY, MAC, protocol, and application-level performance) based on product requirements and use cases.
  • Proven experience with network capacity planning, network security principles, and general network management best practices.
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer science, or related field, or an equivalent combination of experience, certifications, or other technical training.

Nice To Haves

  • Mobile Core, RAN, Wi-Fi 6, LTE, 5G, private networks, CBRS, RAN, EPC, Virtualization, software defined networks, ORAN, NFV, MEC, OSS/BSS, MANO Experiences are preferred.
  • Very familiar with Cisco’s enterprise wireless infrastructure.
  • CCNA, CWDP, and/or related CISCO or other professional certifications strongly preferred.
  • Any other related certifications of formal training related to Network Architecture & Administration.

Responsibilities

  • Design, configure, and commission the networking and core elements of customer projects. Includes designing the IP networks, firewalls, switches, packet cores, MOCN gateways, element management systems, and other systems as necessary for the project.
  • System administration for any server systems deployed in customer projects.
  • Remotely manage the delivery and commissioning of these network elements at the project locations.
  • Oversee installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of end user hardware, software, and peripheral devices.
  • Design, configure, commission, and operate networking and core elements of RF Connect’s Production Network. The Production Network consists of servers and software systems which are centrally deployed and support multiple customers. This includes NOC systems, element management systems, packet cores, and similar.
  • Responsible for the maintenance of the Production Network including software updates and system expansions.
  • Responsible for capacity management of the Production Network.
  • System administration for servers and systems.
  • Monitor network performance and troubleshoot as needed, including connectivity, performance, and configuration problems.
  • Perform server and security audits, and system backups and recovery as needed.
  • Ensure successful configuration for optimal performance and reliability to fulfill internal and external customer objectives and processes.
  • Create and maintain documentation as it relates to network configuration, network mapping, processes, and service records.
  • Design and participate in lab and field testing and troubleshooting.
  • Interact and negotiate with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure network products and services.
  • Monitor and test network performance and provide network performance statistics and reports.
  • Additional related duties may be assigned as needed to support the business & customers.
