About The Position

Galapagos Federal Systems LLC is seeking a highly motivated professional for the Network Engineer Lead position. This role supports a large Government client across multiple locations and offers the opportunity to work within a collaborative, high-performing team. The Network Engineer Lead is responsible for maintaining compliance with industry and government IT standards through deployments, patching, and system maintenance. Duties include configuring, monitoring, and troubleshooting network infrastructure—such as routers, switches, and encryption devices—within a Windows Active Directory environment. This role ensures production systems are secure, optimized for performance, and effectively integrated with Wide Area Networks (WANs). Additional responsibilities include monitoring network performance, resolving outages, coordinating upgrades, and collaborating with system integration and network architecture teams. The position also involves engaging with stakeholders, participating in meetings, and delivering reports and recommendations to support continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • Active Secret Clearance
  • 5-7 years of experience preferred in network administration working with networking equipment specifically, including maintenance and upgrades, and be familiar with the applicable NIST Special Publications 800-37, 800-53, and 800-53A
  • Strong experience with enterprise network management and monitoring tools (e.g., CiscoWorks, NetView, InfoVista, NetCool, Riverbed, SecureCRT, Chimera, Schnozz)
  • Knowledge of wireless technologies and protocols (802.11 b/g/n) and authentication methods (EAP, PEAP, EAP-TLS, EAP-TTLS)
  • Hands-on experience configuring and troubleshooting network devices, including: Cisco ASA 5500 Series firewalls Cisco 3000/4000/5000/6000 series routers and multilayer switches Juniper switches Cisco Unified IP Phones and VoIP systems Network encryption devices
  • Strong understanding of networking protocols, services, and enterprise architectures
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Experience developing technical documentation and system design artifacts
  • Proven ability to work within structured schedules and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent customer service skills with a professional demeanor
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related discipline
  • Must possess and maintain an IT I level certification IAW AR 25-2 and an IAT II certification IAW DoD 8570.01-M
  • Juniper, Cisco, CWNA or BCNE training
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen. A high-level Department of Defense active security clearance is/may be required. Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to government information.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee network engineering operations, ensuring projects remain on schedule and aligned with approved processes and standards
  • Supervise Network Engineering team members, including time card approval and day-to-day task management
  • Participate in weekly and monthly status meetings; support the Site Lead with inputs for Monthly Status Reports (MSRs) and Quarterly IPRs
  • Apply and enforce technical standards and security policies for LAN/CAN environments; identify and remediate vulnerabilities
  • Install, configure, troubleshoot, and support enterprise network infrastructure, including routers, switches, encryption devices, and VoIP systems
  • Provide LAN/CAN support, including troubleshooting, repairs, and end-user network connectivity issues
  • Support VPN endpoints and wireless network technologies as required
  • Monitor network performance using enterprise management tools; analyze activity, perform fault isolation, and maintain high availability
  • Generate network utilization and performance reports
  • Support RMF/accreditation activities, including STIG compliance, eMASS documentation, POA&M updates, and related artifacts
  • Manage network configuration and capacity planning processes
  • Develop, maintain, and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and technical documentation
  • Collaborate with network architects, system integration teams, and stakeholders to improve performance and reliability
  • Maintain a high level of professionalism and provide excellent customer service
