About The Position

Network Engineer I will be responsible for turn-up of Voice Operation (VoIP) services, including the installation of CPE devices, testing, and troubleshooting of issues related to Voice services and last-mile transport technologies. Network Engineer I will also provide field service support, coordinate installation, work trouble tickets, complete CPE equipment provisioning, fulfill VoIP orders, network devices, customer deployments, and other equipment as required. Some after normal business hours work will be required, including an on-call rotation. The individual must be open to a flexible work schedule and willing to work more than 40 hours per week as objectives require. Some WFH days may be approved, but this position will primarily report to 35 Bonnie Ln Sylva, NC. Duties also include monitoring and responding to alarms, as well as occasional maintenance during late-night hours.

Requirements

  • Juniper JNCIA is required or must be obtained within 1 year.
  • Understanding of SONET, TDM, SS7, SIGTRAN, & SIP
  • In-depth understanding of Ethernet, routing & switching
  • Fiber standards, connectors, & copper cabling
  • In-depth understanding of VoIP networks and how they interconnect with data and optical networks
  • Excellent communication skills are necessary for interaction with customers, vendors, contractors, and other team members
  • Must have the willingness, the determination, and the ability to investigate/research and make suggestions for improvements of our networks.
  • Must have the work ethic and understanding of why it is important to be on time and work hard to accomplish goals set by the leadership.
  • Must be able to work well with a team and collaborate to solve complex problems under pressure.
  • Must be able to maintain a driver’s license and have an acceptable driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in managing softswitch, edge, and access configuration devices
  • Duties may involve implementing Ethernet, MPLS/VPLS, & VLAN circuits
  • Installing of DWDM or PON hardware, jumpers, & ONTs
  • Provision phone numbers, features, hunt groups, and other voice services, as well as coordinate porting of customer phone numbers
  • Provide first-level support to customers; escalate network issues for resolution as appropriate
  • Identify and correct any escalated internet, PON, VoIP, or data issues
  • Assist and manage the installation of PON Equipment, Analog Telephone Adapters (ATAs), IP Phones, routers, and other types of Voice-related equipment, or other edge devices such as T-Marc switches
  • Assist with fiber infrastructure at customer locations and complete site surveys of the customer’s data and voice network necessary to facilitate service installation or upgrades
  • Liaise with the local telephone companies to complete installations and work to troubleshoot local telephone companies’ network connections; T-1, PRI, DS-3s, and other types of connections
  • Communicate and liaise with all other company departments; notify appropriate parties immediately of any issues which may affect efficient operations, including, but not limited to, outages, service disruptions, and repeated customer complaints
  • Installing and configuring network equipment, including DWDM and optical transport
  • Monitoring systems to improve network performance and detection of faults
  • Troubleshooting, resolving, and communicating networking issues to other employees, customers, and management
  • Building and implementing Ethernet, MPLS/VPLS, & VLAN circuits
  • Configuring optical transport circuits
  • Perform IP hardware, circuit, and backbone capacity planning
  • Work closely with other operations team members
  • Helping maintain POP & COLO facilities as requested
  • Other duties as requested
