About The Position

Reporting to Manager, IT Operations, the Network Engineer 4 develops, plans, and implements projects and initiatives in the areas of network access and design. Acting as a senior technical resource for network technologies, they will work with the team, vendors, and partners to ensure a stable, reliable, and flexible communications infrastructure and help develop strategic initiatives and enhanced services based on business need and new technologies.

Requirements

  • A minimum of a B.S. degree in computer science or engineering is required. Alternatively, an additional 4 years (14 total) highly relevant full-time working experience may be considered in lieu of a 4-year degree.
  • Minimum of 10 years of full-time, relevant working experience in network design and support including LANs, WANs, and wireless is required.
  • Design and supporting VOIP systems or QoS/CoS
  • Network protocols (BGP, MPLS, VPN, OSPF, TCP/IP, STP)
  • Authentication / authorization technologies (802.1x, NAC, Aruba Clearpass, Cisco ISE, or equivalent) and ACLs
  • VPN technology (site to site, IPSEC, always on VPN clients)
  • Experience with all levels of network hardware (switches, routers, firewalls)
  • Supporting and working with environments supported by service providers.
  • Demonstrated technical documentation ability
  • Demonstrated professionalism and skills to communicate effectively with internal departments.
  • Eligible to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810.

Nice To Haves

  • Working in a highly-regulated industry
  • Familiarity with Fortinet, Aruba OS, Aruba OS-CX
  • Certifications in relevant areas (Cisco, Aruba, others)
  • Linux Support and Administration
  • Experience with 21 CFR Part 610 or ISO 25746

Responsibilities

  • Maintains and administers core networking devices including firewalls, switches, routers, wireless controllers and access points
  • Maintains and administers various wide area and local area networks to ensure correct functionality and configuration.
  • Maintains and administers VOIP phone systems and networks
  • Is the primary point of contact for vendors and partners on network related issues, products, and services
  • Performs periodic network inventory and configuration audit tasks
  • Leads IT projects and works them to completion
  • Schedules and coordinates network hardware maintenance windows with support personnel.
  • Remote support and on-call hours may be required on a rotational basis.
  • Maintains and implements the processes, policies, and procedures that deal with network services and equipment
  • Researches and tests new and emerging systems and network technologies; makes recommendations to the Operations Manager
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
