About The Position

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation
of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we’re the people who keep the
cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage,
networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have

The AWS GCNA (Global Connectivity and Network Availability) Organization is
looking for a Network Development Engineer to join our Backbone Enterprise, and
Regional Engineering (BERE) team. Network Development Engineers partner with our
broader Infrastructure organization on configurations standards and tools, and
collaborate with Systems and Software Engineers to ensure fast, smooth roll-out
of new designs and products, and also deploy and sustain networking software
tools.
AWS GCNA (Global Connectivity and Network Availability) is the backbone that
connects the global
AWS network. Focused on controlling the internet traffic that allows users to
access their information
and applications regardless of where they are in the world. GCNA is responsible
for building and
designing a complex backbone network that allows internet traffic to flow
efficiently between data
centers and customers.
Engineers in the Backbone Enterprise and Regional Engineering (BERE)
organization have a wide range
of responsibilities: we work with internal partners to develop and implement the
next gen platforms
along with the tooling ecosystems to support with these platforms driving
efficiency and scalability
through the automation of builds, configuration deployment, and the scaling of
capacity. As our
network is one of the largest in the world, there is no blue print at our scale
allowing our engineers to
develop solutions to the complex challenges that we face daily. We encourage
durable solutions that
look around corners while taking into consideration our customer needs from a
cost, performance, and
reliability perspective. Our team develops tooling that provides the required
visibility and control of
traffic across the network, while prioritizing the automatic mitigation of
events to minimize the impact
to our customers during events.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or above in computer science or equivalent
• 8+ years of IP networking fundamentals and extensive experience in the application of IP protocols as well as network analysis fundamentals and robust troubleshooting skills.
• 8+ years of experience with major internet routing protocols; specifically, BGP, OSPF, MPLS, RSVP and ISIS in a large enterprise environment.
• 8+ years working with major network operating systems such as Cisco IOS and/ or Junos.
• 3+ years experience with Unix/Linux skills and the ability to script in Python, Perl, shell.

Nice To Haves

• A Masters in Computer Science, MBA, or equivalent experience.
• Senior or Lead Engineer experience at other organizations.
• Expert-level certifications (e.g. CCIE, JNCIE) a plus.
• Expert-level scripting and or automation skills in a network environment.
• Software development/programming skills are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Network Development Engineers perform high quality network and/or systems operations, deployments, scaling, technology refresh, sustaining engineering, best practices application, optimization, internal/external customer interactions, and produce appropriate technical documentation.
• Your core job responsibility is to design network designs, services and deployment procedures that solve for many requirements.
• Together, you and your leadership team will decide on the projects that best support your team’s mission.
• You and your team will design ahead of customer or technology needs, always predicting and solving for problems that have not yet occurred. This takes the form of creating and defending High Level Design (HLD) and Low Level Design (LLD) documents, working with internal stakeholders to influence technology roadmaps, constructing and testing your solutions, and providing support to the teams that will deploy and operate these designs.
• You will create and automate deployment processes that increases quality and velocity.
• You will Work closely with our internal customers on designs/solutions; bringing those designs/solutions from concept to production
• Work in a 24x7 team on call rotation, with ability to drive into workplace for critical events/needs.
• Manage customers during problem resolution and operating efficiently under pressure.
• Sit at the computer during scheduled work hours with appropriate breaks while maintaining a high level of alertness and attention to detail.
• Travel to data center/network sites and Amazon/customer offices as needed.
