Job Summary Provide WAN, LAN and/or mainframe access over local and remote networks by managing, installing, moving, andrepairing mainframe and network terminals and associated equipment. Job Description Overview The Network Analyst I provides technical support, maintenance, analysis, and repair of computer, network, hardware, and software for the City of Dallas. Manages, installs, moves, and repairs mainframe and network terminals and associated equipment.

  • Investigates, troubleshoots, and repairs or resolves problems between the host computers and the remote terminal stations including both software and hardware problems to ensure efficient operations; provides on-site technical support and configures equipment to meet the needs of departments.
  • Analyzes network performance and terminal response time, generates network definition changes, and modifies network design as needed to ensure the most optimum performance.
  • Assists in the planning and installation of new system components (both hardware and software) as requested by departments to ensure the most effective equipment configurations and design.
  • Oversees vendor contracts and examines vendor bills to ensure the network operation remains within budget guidelines.
  • Installs, repairs, rebuilds, and maintains hardware for the user department; writes specifications and installs new work stations, servers, peripherals, and upgraded software.
  • Serves as an information resource for users of the network and provides remote access customer service and on site help.
  • Maintains network documentation and records on activity log.
  • Performs any and all other work as needed or assigned.
  • Knowledge of teleprocessing equipment, procedures and techniques used in communications system management.
  • Knowledge of twisted-wire pair, coaxial cable, optical fiber, microwave and radio transmission systems.
  • Knowledge of synchronous and binary synchronous protocols, analog and digital data circuits, modems and data service units.
  • Knowledge of personal computers, software, hardware, and networks.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and analyze network problems while devising creative solutions.
  • Ability to provide exceptional customer service and resolve customer concerns.
  • Communicating effectively verbally and in writing
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
  • EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Computer Science, MIS, Science or business field.
  • EXPERIENCE Four (4) years of experience configuring and installing client technologies including, but not limited to: desktops, laptops, printers, mobile devices, A/V equipment, which must include at least two (2) of the following: Experience in full lifecycle management: procurement, inventory control, deployment, support, disposal. Experience providing white-glove executive support to Senior Leadership Familiarity with inventory management systems and tools
  • Valid driver's license with good driving record.
  • No Felony or class A misdemeanor convictions.
  • No class B misdemeanor convictions within the last ten (10) years.
  • No family violence convictions.
  • Cannot currently be on deferred adjudication for any felony, class A misdemeanor, or class B misdemeanor charge.
  • Availability to work twenty-four (24/7) call-out.
  • Must have own transportation.
  • Some positions may require lifting up to fifty (50) pounds.
