The Ferguson Network Operations Center (NOC) serves as the enterprise’s centralized hub for monitoring, supporting, and maintaining a large, geographically distributed network. The environment is fast paced and highly collaborative, with a constant stream of alerts, incidents, service requests, and critical issues that require methodical troubleshooting, good communication, and close coordination to resolve issues quickly and prevent recurrence. The team is known for its technical depth, approachability, and customer-focused approach, working together to ensure reliable connectivity, optimal performance, and high availability across all locations. As a Mid-Level Network Administrator, you will play a key role in maintaining day-to-day enterprise network operations in partnership with the NOC and business customers. You will be responsible for fixing and resolving network incidents, accomplishing approved low-risk changes, and supporting scheduled network adds, moves, changes, upgrades, and deployments. This role offers the opportunity to work independently on complex issues while contributing to a disciplined, team-oriented operational model. LOCATION: Fully remote role based anywhere in the United States, with intermittent travel to various Ferguson locations and headquarters as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Five to seven years of relevant experience supporting enterprise network operations, including large-scale deployments and the installation, integration, and support of network hardware, software, and services
  • Good understanding of Layer 2 and Layer 3 networking concepts, including VLANs, trunking, STP, ARP, and MAC address tables.
  • Solid routing fundamentals with hands-on experience supporting OSPF and BGP, VRFs, and route and prefix policy validation.
  • Experience supporting SD-WAN environments, including underlay and overlay health, tunnel stability, and traffic path selection.
  • Proficiency with network monitoring and observability tools using SNMP, syslog, NetFlow, and platforms such as SolarWinds/Orion.
  • Solid understanding of packet analysis and traffic validation using Wireshark and a strong foundation in TCP/IP, DNS, and DHCP.
  • Experience deploying, upgrading, and supporting switching infrastructure, including stacking, LACP/EtherChannel, and PoE.
  • Hands-on wireless administration and troubleshooting experience, particularly with Aruba solutions, including SSIDs, RF fundamentals, and 802.1X.
  • Familiarity with network management platforms such as Cisco DNA Center and Aruba Central/AirWave, along with secure CLI access via SSH or console.
  • Experience owning incidents and service requests within an ITSM platform such as ServiceNow, including incident and problem management practices.

Responsibilities

  • Triage, troubleshoot, and resolve network break/fix incidents involving routing, switching, wireless, and edge connectivity, ensuring timely service restoration and minimal business impact.
  • Implement approved, low-risk network configuration changes, including VLANs, trunking, ACLs, port security, interface settings, and standard device configurations.
  • Support and administer Aruba and Cisco routing, switching, and wireless platforms, as well as Versa SD-WAN solutions, in a large-scale enterprise environment.
  • Monitor network health and performance using SNMP, syslog, NetFlow, and enterprise monitoring tools such as SolarWinds/Orion, Cisco DNA Center, and Aruba Central/AirWave.
  • Perform packet captures and traffic analysis using tools such as Wireshark to diagnose outages, latency, packet loss, and intermittent performance issues.
  • Support routing and overlay/underlay operations, including OSPF and BGP, VRFs, IPSec/GRE tunnels, and SD-WAN path selection and failover.
  • Validate Layer 2 and Layer 3 forwarding by analyzing STP behavior, EtherChannel/LACP, ARP tables, MAC address tables, and interface statistics.
  • Coordinate with carriers, service providers, and internal teams to troubleshoot circuit issues, restore connectivity, and verify end-to-end stability.
  • Manage incident, request, and change tickets from acceptance through resolution within ITSM workflows (e.g., ServiceNow), ensuring accurate documentation and timely updates.
  • Document remediation steps, configuration changes, and outcomes; contribute to technical resolution notes and root-cause analysis reports for high-impact or recurring incidents.
  • Participate in site surveys, engineering design discussions, and implementation calls to support network expansion and optimization efforts.
  • Work independently with limited supervision while adhering to established standards, procedures, and change-management practices.
