About The Position

This position is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the City of Doral networks and ensuring proper maintenance and security of local area networks (LANs), wide area networks (WANs), network segments, intranets, and other data communication system. This position works closely with other network professionals and IT personnel to update cyber security measures, install hardware or software devices and troubleshoot problems. This includes coordinating upgrade initiatives, assisting with activities at various city facilities such as upgrading systems with the latest versions of software, the rollout of new hardware. This position is classified as a non-exempt, full-time position with a 40 hour work-week.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in computer science, information technology, or related field; and five (5) years of related work experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Possession of a valid, State of Florida driver's license to operate a motor vehicle.
  • Knowledge of Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) framework.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office 365, Sharepoint, and other network-related applications.
  • Knowledge of backup and recovery of servers and applications.
  • Knowledge of Network protocols and current security technologies and practices.
  • Knowledge of server and networking hardware configurations.
  • Skill in verbal and written communication.
  • Skill in Windows-based client and server operating systems.
  • Skill in troubleshooting and resolving technical issues.
  • Skill in organizing and prioritizing work.
  • Skill in project management.
  • Skill in the operation of computer software and hardware sufficient to enter, retrieve, and manipulate data.
  • Ability to analyze data and formulate recommendations.
  • Ability to fluently read, interpret, speak, write and understand the English language.
  • Ability to work independently work minimal supervision.
  • Ability to interact professionally and maintain effective working relationships with superiors, co-workers, customers, and others.

Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and maintain network hardware and software such as routers, firewalls, and switches.
  • Protect networks from unauthorized users through physical and technical means.
  • Set up and maintain virtual private networks (VPN).
  • Resolve city wide network connectivity issues.
  • Evaluate network performance issues including availability, utilization, throughput, latency; planning and implementing the selection of equipment, installation, configuration, and testing of equipment.
  • Manages technical resources working onsite, providing vendors with all the information needed to assist in supporting the end-users.
  • Diagnoses and resolves technical problems prevent problem escalation and provides solution tracking.
  • Secures network by developing network access, monitoring, control, and evaluation, maintaining documentation.
  • Utilizes Change Control System for software and firmware updates; renewals of service contracts, support contracts, and keeps passwords secured.
  • Monitor and update antivirus software, review and work with Security Manager to remove threats when detected.
  • Works with IT staff in designing technical systems and architecture.
  • Handles multiple project responsibilities simultaneously to prioritize work and resolve technical emergencies as they may occur.
  • Protects the organization by keeping all security information confidential.
  • Performs other related job duties as assigned.
