About The Position

Objective of the Job: The position of OT Fiber/Fire Specialist is a support role to all systems in the steel industry. OT will work closely with the construction division carrying out communications as well as supporting the fire systems across the campus. OT will support the access systems and the surveillance systems ensuring the integrity of the facility. Also, OT will support the IT systems to insure connectivity across the entire site. Duties and Responsibilities: 1) Ensure Safety, Environmental, Quality requirements and “where applicable” ResponsibleSteel requirements are followed. 2) Reading and interpreting network installation blueprints and splice schedules 3) Splicing, testing, and repairing fiber optic cables to ensure optimal network performance 4) Operating specialized equipment and vehicles necessary for fiber optic splicing 5) Installing and maintaining network systems for a manufacturing facility in extreme conditions 6) Performing end-to-end fiber tests with OTDR's, power meters, and light sources 7) Adhering to industry safety standards and protocols during all installations and repairs 8) Documenting and reporting on completed installations and any irregularities or issues 9) Providing technical support and troubleshooting network issues as required 10) Maintaining updated knowledge of the latest fiber optic technology, equipment, and techniques 11) Inspect and test fire alarm systems to ensure they are in working order 12) Repair and maintain fire alarm systems 13) Identify malfunctions in systems and repair or replace faulty equipment 14) Work with building plans to assess the best placement of fire alarm equipment 15) Program and calibrate systems to ensure they are functioning properly 16) Work with IT and OT systems for all network communications including switching, routing, wireless, Profibus, Profinet, cellular 17) Install and repair of access control systems and surveillance systems Qualifications: 1) High School Diploma or GED 2) Position is normally straight days, but may require additional hours on weekends and some night work as well as holidays 3) On call schedule will be required 4) Must adhere to all safety procedures and guidelines. Safety protection such as hard hats, safety glasses, steel toe boots with metatarsal protection, hearing protection, protective clothing 5) Must not be colorblind because you will work daily with fiber optic color code standard 6) Attendance and punctuality are a must, along with the ability to self-direct workflow. 7) Must pass a pre-employment assessment. Working Conditions and Physical Requirements: This position requires the ability to work in a steel plant setting and office settings with daily tasks in the mill, which could typically involve extreme environments from hot to cold. This position can require long hours, weekend and holiday coverage to support routine responsibilities. Supervisory Responsibility: This position does not supervise others

Requirements
