About The Position

UnityPoint Clinic and St. Luke’s Hospital are actively recruiting for a Neonatology Physician to join our team in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. St. Luke’s Hospital NICU provides care to term and preterm newborn infants in our advanced 22-bed AAP Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Our team full team will include 4 neonatologists and 4 nurse practitioners providing 24 x 7 in-house neonatology coverage for our free-standing Women’s and Children’s Health Center. We provide care for non-surgical patients of infants ≥ 23 weeks’ gestation and serve as a regional hub for affiliate institutions throughout northeastern Iowa. Our practice includes high-frequency ventilation (both jet and oscillator), inhaled nitric oxide, therapeutic hypothermia, and specialized transport services. We strive to collaboratively provide up-to-date, evidence-based, multi-disciplinary, family-centered, and developmentally appropriate care. There is a strong focus on family centered care for which the NICU has been nationally recognized and hosts a Ronald McDonald Family Room. Full time position; Flexible shifts and scheduling Holidays are shared amongst the team Fully integrated system with clinics and hospitals on EPIC EMR to improve care coordination

Requirements

  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Neonatology
  • Hold an unrestricted medical license in the state of Iowa
  • Hold current and unrestricted state and federal authority to prescribe and administer medications
  • Eligible to work in the United States

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive critical care to neonatal inpatients
  • Neonatal consultation services ( e.g ., newborn nursery, inpatient pediatrics, emergency department, labor and delivery, referring institutions, etc .)
  • Perform procedures ( e.g. , lumbar puncture, endotracheal intubation, umbilical lines, etc. )
  • Communicate with caregivers
  • Timely accurate documentation in electronic medical record (NeoData, Epic)
  • Participate in teaching and development of nursing and ancillary staff ( e.g. , STABLE, NRP, bedside teaching, educational conferences, etc. )
  • Participate in maintenance and improvement of unit practice ( e.g. , VON quality collaboratives, journal clubs, division meetings, protocol writing/review, etc. )
  • Work as a team member to improve the health of the people and communities we serve
  • Patient-focused, friendly, and willing to collaborate in a team environment
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal)
