About The Position

A Neonatologist is a medical specialist who provides advanced medical care for newborn infants, as well as premature and critically ill infants. They diagnose and treat a variety of conditions, from birth defects and infections to breathing problems and cardiac issues. Neonatologists are responsible for managing complex medical issues, performing a variety of medical procedures, administering medication, and monitoring the health and development of infants. They work closely with families to provide support and education, as well as coordinating with a team of medical professionals, including pediatricians, nurses, and specialists.

Requirements

  • Medical Doctorate degree (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.) or foreign equivalent from an accredited school of medicine.
  • Graduate of an accredited ACGME training program in neonatology
  • Sub-speciality certification from ABP in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine
  • Licensed or ability to obtain Minnesota board of Medical Practice Licensure Currently board certification in Neonatal- Perinatal Medicine by the American Board of Pediatrics or an equivalent board of the RCPSC or eligible examination for certification. Current NRP certificaiton
  • Ability to obtain and/or maintain DEA certification for the State of MN
  • Meet threshold criteria/qualifications for Credentialing and Privilages

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive care to newborns and premature infants
  • Evaluate the physical and mental development of newborns
  • Perform assessments of infants’ health, including ordering and interpreting lab and imaging tests
  • Prescribe medications and treatment plans
  • Advise parents on infant care and nutrition
  • Attend deliveries and provide emergency care for newborns
  • Collaborate with other healthcare team to ensure the best possible care for the newborn
  • Maintains the electronic medical record in accordance with Fairview standards and in accordance with licensure and scope
  • Recognizes and appropriately responds to medical emergencies
  • Serves as a patient advocate by maining patient confidentiality, protecting patient rights, communicateing in a timely manner and resolving concerns or complaints regarding care and service
