About The Position

The Neonatal Physician Assistant Residency at Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital is an intensive, postgraduate training program designed to prepare Physician Assistants for practice in high-acuity neonatal intensive care units. The Neonatal PA Resident will be exposed to structured didactic curriculum, clinical training in a level IV NICU, and mentorship from a team of 17 Neonatologists and 30+ APPs (Neonatal Nurse Practitioners, Pediatric Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants). After completion of the 12 month program, the Neonatal PA resident will have the knowledge, procedural skills, and clinical judgment required to care for the most critically ill newborns. The program is located at Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis, IN, a brand new state of the art building with 109 private room NICU beds, part of Indiana’s largest non-profit health system, Ascension. The hospital features a cutting-edge 109-bed private room Level IV NICU, and a dedicated 24/7 team within its 23-bed PICU, specialized Pediatric Emergency Department, and tertiary care pediatric hospital.

Requirements

  • BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
  • Physician Assistant credentialed from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
  • Physician Assistant credentialed from the Indiana Physician Assistant Committee obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
  • Graduate of accredited Physician Assistant program.

  • NCCPA PANCE/PANRE Examination Scores
  • 3 Letters of Recommendation (including 1 from your PA Program Director or current collaborating physician)
  • Personal statement describing your drive/desire for the specialty of Neonatology

  • Advanced Life Support preferred. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • 1 year of experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the clinical management of complex neonatal cases, utilizing advanced procedures such as intubation, umbilical line and PICC line placement, lumbar puncture, and thoracentesis to provide life-saving intervention for our most vulnerable patients.
  • Direct the stabilization and transport of neonates as a key member of the Critical Care Transport Team, ensuring high-quality, continuous care for newborns throughout the state during high-stakes transitions.
  • Orchestrate high-risk delivery response by providing immediate, expert assessment and stabilization to ensure the best possible start for newborns with critical medical needs.
  • Empower families and caregivers through empathetic counseling and education, translating complex clinical data into actionable treatment plans and long-term wellness strategies.
  • Document patient care journeys with meticulous precision, ensuring that every assessment, diagnostic interpretation, and treatment plan contributes to a seamless, high-quality record of the child’s recovery.
