About The Position

The NDT Technician (Level I) performs Magnetic Particle Inspection (MT) on metal components used in the manufacture of belt-fed weapon systems. This role focuses primarily on conducting MT inspections in accordance with written procedures, industry standards, and customer/contract requirements. When MT workload is low, the technician supports the Quality Control (QC) department with other dimensional, visual, and documentation-based inspections as assigned. This position is integral to ensuring product conformance, verifying the integrity of critical components, and supporting overall compliance with ISO 9001:2015 and Defense Contract Management Agency (DCMA)/Army requirements.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, tolerances, and specifications.
  • Basic understanding of quality inspection methods and manufacturing processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow detailed work instructions and inspection procedures.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in documentation.

Nice To Haves

  • Level I or Level II Magnetic Particle Testing (MT) certification.
  • Experience performing horizontal wet bench MT in a manufacturing environment—preferably metals or defense.
  • Experience working under an ISO 9001 or defense-contract manufacturing system.
  • Familiarity with Rockwell hardness testing, gauges, and general QC practices.
  • Basic knowledge of defect types, discontinuities, and material behaviors (e.g., steels, stainless, titanium).

Responsibilities

  • Perform Magnetic Particle Inspection (MT) per approved procedures, work instructions, and acceptance criteria.
  • Set up and operate MT equipment, ensuring correct magnetization technique, current levels, and part orientation.
  • Prepare parts for inspection, including cleaning, surface preparation, and post-inspection demagnetization.
  • Identify, mark, and document all relevant and non-relevant indications.
  • Maintain accurate inspection records, logs, and digital traceability within the QMS.
  • Ensure MT equipment calibration, daily checks, and system performance verifications are completed and recorded.
  • Report discrepancies immediately to the QC Supervisor or Quality Engineer.
  • Dimensional inspections using calipers, micrometers, height gauges, gauges, and other metrology tools.
  • First article, in-process, and final inspections as assigned.
  • Visual inspection for defects per established procedures and drawings.
  • Data entry and documentation tasks related to inspections, NCRs, or production records.
  • Support containment activities when quality issues arise.
  • Follow all QAPs, critical characteristic controls, and contract-specific inspection requirements.
  • Adhere to internal quality procedures, material handling standards, and safety requirements.
  • Participate in corrective action activities when inspection results identify systemic issues.
  • Recommend improvements to inspection processes, fixtures, or work instructions when applicable.
