About The Position

The Naval Service Reserve is a part-time voluntary organisation, and trains members in aspects of nautical and military disciplines to augment the Naval Service. Reservists are liable to be called up on permanent service by ministerial order in times of emergency. The Naval Service Reserve offers a unique opportunity in developing valuable skills, discipline, and teamwork without stepping away from your civilian career or studies. As a Reservist, you will support maritime operations and contribute directly to Ireland’s security at home and abroad. Whether you’re looking to challenge yourself and give back to your community, the Naval Service Reserve allows you to balance service with your existing commitments. Eligibility Requirements to join the Army Reserve: Applicants must be 18 years of age and under 39 years of age or not more 45 years of age if former member of the PDF or RDF with at least 1 year of military service: you will be required to provide proof of your age and military service number (if applicable) if you progress to the next stage of the competition. You must be at least 5ft 2in (157.48cm) in height to be eligible. You will be measured during the selection process. No tattoos are to be visible above the collar while serving at the Defence Forces. This will be checked during the selection process, and you may not proceed if you have visible tattoos above your collar. Applicants must meet the working permit eligibility criteria to serve as part of the Defence Forces. i.e. You must have a minimum of 5 years eligibility to stay in Ireland. You will be requested to provide proof of working permit on your application. Must meet medical, physical and security clearance standards in which will be assessed during the recruitment process. What to expect as an Naval Reserve: Defence Forces training can complement your path towards professional development. Often there are opportunities to participate in training or engage in the practice of executing the roles and responsibilities of management and leadership at varying levels and scales. Recruit Training is conducted in the Naval Base, Haulbowline, Co. Cork. It comprises of four (4) weekends unpaid training, 14 days continuous paid training, followed by two (2) weekends paid training. After completing basic recruit training, NSR members can complete courses both within the Naval Service and other Defence Forces Training centres
