The Naval Service Reserve is a part-time voluntary organisation, and trains members in aspects of nautical and military disciplines to augment the Naval Service. Reservists are liable to be called up on permanent service by ministerial order in times of emergency. The Naval Service Reserve offers a unique opportunity in developing valuable skills, discipline, and teamwork without stepping away from your civilian career or studies. As a Reservist, you will support maritime operations and contribute directly to Ireland’s security at home and abroad. Whether you’re looking to challenge yourself and give back to your community, the Naval Service Reserve allows you to balance service with your existing commitments. What to expect as an Naval Reserve: Defence Forces training can complement your path towards professional development. Often there are opportunities to participate in training or engage in the practice of executing the roles and responsibilities of management and leadership at varying levels and scales. Recruit Training is conducted in the Naval Base, Haulbowline, Co. Cork. It comprises of four (4) weekends unpaid training, 14 days continuous paid training, followed by two (2) weekends paid training. After completing basic recruit training, NSR members can complete courses both within the Naval Service and other Defence Forces Training centres
