About The Position

Naturalist Aides assist in educating the public and conducting programs including children's nature camps, field trip programs, nature walks, special events, and front desk duties. They also assist with the care of animal ambassadors including feeding and cleaning the enclosures of captive insects (adult butterflies and their pupae), reptiles, amphibians, and fish. Naturalist aides must work well in a team environment with park staff and volunteers, represent the park district in a positive manner, and communicate well with park visitors and program participants.

Requirements

  • Completion of secondary education (high school diploma or GED).
  • Excellent visitor service, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience working with children and adults of all ages.
  • Availability to work on weekends and evenings, as needed.
  • Willingness to work outside in all types of weather.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs. and walk up to 3 miles in a day.
  • Ability to work well with others and individually, performing duties as assigned, as a member of the Miller Nature Preserve team.
  • Must possess a valid Ohio driver’s license and complete a background check.
  • Lorain County Metropolitan Park District policy prohibits hiring new employees who are tobacco users.

Nice To Haves

  • Two years of college in the field of natural resources, education, environmental science, or a related field is preferred.
  • Cash handling and POS experience is preferred.
  • Experience caring for live animals is preferred.
