About The Position

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), Division of Parks & Watercraft, is seeking energetic, passionate individuals for the position of Natural Resources Technician 2, headquartered at Deer Creek State Park in Pickaway County. The role involves working outdoors in Ohio's state parks, performing customer service, and maintaining park facilities, grounds, and equipment. ODNR operates 76 state parks, manages over 750,000 acres of diverse wildlife land and more than 2 million acres of water, aiming to ensure a balance between wise use and protection of natural resources for the benefit of all. Employees at ODNR are afforded opportunities to participate in public events at parks, nature preserves, wildlife areas, and annually at the Natural Resources Park at the Ohio State Fair, as well as Lunch and Learn events and monthly updates with the Director.

Requirements

  • 6 months training or 6 months experience in semi-skilled maintenance functions (i.e., minor electrical repair, rough plumbing repairs, carpentry & masonry)
  • 6 months training or 6 months experience in equipment safety practices
  • 6 months training or 6 months experience in use of shop, hand & power tools
  • 6 months training or 6 months experience in operation of mowers & trucks
  • 6 months training or 6 months experience in equipment maintenance
  • Valid driver’s license
  • 6 months experience as Natural Resources Technician 1, 22621
  • Equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above
  • General Maintenance Technical Skills: Natural Resources, Plumbing Trade, Carpentry Trade, Electrical Trade
  • Professional Skills: Attention to Detail, Customer Focus, Adaptability
  • Transcripts are required for all coursework, degrees or educational accomplishments claimed on the application

Responsibilities

  • Work outside in some of the most beautiful parks in Ohio
  • Perform customer service functions with a willingness to go above and beyond to ensure customer satisfaction and safety
  • Maintain campground facilities, grounds &/or equipment
  • Maintain a variety of park equipment and vehicles
  • Work in different field operations including carpentry, plumbing, electrical, roofing, masonry, and operating hand and power tools
  • Interact daily with a variety of customers who utilize the park & watercraft facilities
