About The Position

The Natural Resources Specialist 1 (Seasonal) is an entry-level field worker that assists Natural Resources Division staff in day-to-day or project related natural resource management, i.e., maintenance and restoration, research and/or monitoring activities, in Cleveland Metroparks. Cleveland Metroparks is seeking applicants to learn and assist with a variety of natural resources management projects. The position duration will range 5-6 months (up to 1100 hours) and report to West Creek Reservation’s Management Center (0.3 miles from an RTA bus stop on Routes 53-53A). Projects will occur throughout Cleveland Metroparks and may include: Invasive plant removal – manually, mechanically, chemically Native tree and plant installation Storm water project maintenance Assistance with volunteer projects

Requirements

Energy and enthusiasm for outdoors natural resources work
Strong work ethic
Positive disposition and ability to work well with a diverse team
Willingness to learn and use herbicide techniques for chemical control of invasive plants
Willingness to work outdoors and tolerate the conditions typical of northeast Ohio’s natural areas (heat, humidity, poison ivy, and biting/stinging insects)
Willingness to walk up to 3 miles daily in terrain that includes thick vegetation, wetlands, and steep slopes
Willingness to lift and carry 30 pounds
Willingness to learn a variety of land management techniques including how to operate the relevant tools and equipment
Willingness to carry out responsibilities in a safe and efficient manner
Drivers license not required
