Raytheon is seeking a Senior Principal Software Engineer to join the National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System (NASAMS) team. NASAMS is a cutting-edge air defense system that protects critical assets and population centers from aerial threats by integrating advanced radar, command and control, and missile systems. As a senior technical leader, you will oversee and drive the technical execution of software programs across the NASAMS system effectivity chain: Detect, Decide, Engage, and Destroy. In this highly visible role, you will spearhead the development of mission-critical software, coordinate cross-functional teams, and serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for software architecture and development. As a mentor to engineers at all levels, you will help foster a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, and technical excellence. This position is based in Tewksbury, Massachusetts, where you’ll work in an Agile and DevSecOps environment to deliver high-quality software solutions that meet evolving customer needs.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 10 years of prior relevant experience.
  • Experience in programming languages (e.g., C++, Java).
  • Experience with Agile and DevSecOps methodologies and tools (e.g., CI/CD pipelines, Docker, Jenkins).
  • Experience leading teams and resolving complex technical challenges.
  • Ability to obtain U.S. government issued Secret security clearance is required after start date.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Extensive experience with radar software development and/or radar concepts.
  • Proven expertise in missile defense programs and working with large, complex systems.
  • Hands-on experience with tools such as the Atlassian Suite (e.g., Bitbucket, Artifactory, JIRA, Confluence), Jenkins, Eclipse, and Ansible.
  • Strong knowledge of Linux Operating Systems, particularly Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD environments and pipelines, including experience with DevSecOps methodologies.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make data-driven decisions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to coach and delegate work to junior engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Proven leadership experience in a team environment, driving creative solutions to complex technical problems.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the technical execution of software development programs, ensuring successful delivery of solutions that meet customer requirements.
  • Coordinate and guide the activities of multiple engineers across teams, fostering collaboration and technical excellence.
  • Design, architect, and implement critical software capabilities in an active Agile environment.
  • Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in software architecture, development, testing, and integration.
  • Proactively identify and address technical and programmatic risks, making data-driven decisions to ensure successful execution.
  • Oversee and participate in debugging, troubleshooting, and optimizing software to meet performance and reliability goals.
  • Advocate for continuous improvement in team processes, tools, and technical approaches, driving innovation and efficiency.
  • Prepare and deliver technical presentations, summaries, and reports to stakeholders at all levels, ensuring clarity and understanding.
  • Coach, mentor, and delegate work to lower-level professionals, contributing to their professional development and technical growth.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including systems engineers, test engineers, and program leadership, to deliver integrated solutions for large, complex systems.
