About The Position

The role is to lead the technical delivery across the portfolio of large and complex Projects delivered in North America (NAM). It is a key Leadership role within the Region, critical to support the growth ambition and to keep developing an engaged and skilled workforce. The Technical Director must respectfully work well with others, fostering teamwork, inclusiveness, learning, and development. Critical to this role is not only identifying problems, but proactively leading efficient and effective solutions and deliver results. The Portfolio Technical Director (PTD) is accountable for the quality, competitiveness, and robustness of the technical solution for the overall ACIS, FACTS & HVDC solutions. The PTD is empowered to make appropriate decisions at tender stage and during execution. The PTD provides the technical strategy, integrated direction, management, and leadership to all technical workstreams in the tender and project with an overall systems design view PTD directs and integrates the activities of the different technical workstreams, ensuring that the entire system solution is cohesive, consistent, and effective in supporting project’s goals and strategic plan. The PTD will develop and establish the project’s technical strategies in close cooperation with the HVDC, ACIS & FACTS solution lines and NAM Region Organization. With expertise and humility, PTD is expected to lead Technical Meetings and presentations with GE Vernova Stakeholders, Customers, Owners Engineers, and Partners. The PTD shall lead NAM region Technical Expert Program (TEP) engineering activities and promote technical papers and presentations at professional Conferences and meetings.

Requirements

  • 20+ years of large and complex HV substation project engineering activities in various disciplines
  • Master of Engineering or doctorate degree.
  • Ability and willingness to travel 30% of time to support projects including occasional international travel.
  • Must comply with GE Vernova travel and tax regulations

  • Willingness to work in different locations for short or medium period and to travel worldwide.
  • Deep domain technical knowledge of GE Grid Solutions Power Transmission products (such as GIS, AIS, GCB, Transformer, etc.) and Grid Automation products (such as Protection & Control, SCADA, EMS/PMS, etc.) are plus
  • Open minded, be able to provide innovative and cost-effective solutions to solve customer problems/challenges and make their projects viable and successful
  • Serve as Subject Matter Expert (SME) and interface with GSI Chief Technology Officer (CTO) organization and Solution Lines on challenging technical subjects

Responsibilities

  • Ensures that the technical process follows BMS, project metrics, and supports Eng Dept KPI’s to ensure efficient and effective implementation of the technical solution across the portfolio
  • Work with ITO & OTR teams to lead reference modular, scalable design solutions for all segments (ACIS including Front of the meter and behind the meter Data Centers and Offshore Wind projects, HVDC, FACTS etc.) aligned with customer needs and sales strategies
  • Provide technical expertise and validation of initial design during ITO phase
  • Close coordination with ITO/OTR teams to develop technical solutions
  • Help team to deliver technical proposals to customers and support them during customer phase
  • Check effectiveness of design against delivery of contract requirements and look for global optimization opportunities across consortium during basic & detailed design
  • Working with Sourcing, lead Engr department certification of potential engineering contractors
  • With the PED/PEM, responsible to meet or exceed project technical goals and objectives, including engineering cost, and tracking of internal and consortium controls/gates.
  • Check effectiveness of design against delivery of contract requirements and look for global optimization opportunities across consortium during basic & detailed design
  • Consults, coordinates, and serves as the principal liaison with the different PEMs and teams on strategic technical matters including solution integration, interface definition, life cycle requirements, and change management
  • Recommends and participates in the return of experience and continuous improvement of GSI Engineering processes and procedures
  • Review of the project time schedule for engineering activities in close collaboration with assigned project teams and the planner, professionally and respectfully challenge and verify the engineering teams’ inputs and associated budget and resource management (Engineering hours/cost)
  • Accountable for all required technical interfaces, establishing, and driving the use of the same
  • Supports with reviews of the workstream designs and integration. Accountable to maintain the design as per contract consistency across the portfolio and ensure that any changes are verified through the Change Review Process.
  • Drives and facilitates problem solving and Root Cause Analysis related to technical issues
  • Ensure safety by design, HAZID, HAZOP and HAZCON are undertaken, and consortium and portfolio synergies considered.
  • Create good working environment and maintain good balance of work with teams.
  • Define and validate the design quality plan including required design and gate reviews at the portfolio level and including that defined at project level by the PED’s.
  • Review and follow up on technical risks and opportunities for the portfolio, driving the corresponding mitigation/ action plans as well as participating at the project level reviews.
  • Co-ordinate and support the operations team on issues related to projects by providing technical expertise as needed to meet business requirements.
  • Provide professional engineering reviews and sealing.
