About The Position

Music therapist will provide direct services to youth and families by using music as a tool to help them attain and maintain their maximum levels of functioning and mental well-being. Program planning and services will be designed to reduce stress, increase adaptive coping, provide normalization, promote social interaction, and cultivate resilience in a safe environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in music therapy
  • At least one (1) year previous work experience as a music therapist
  • Proficient with playing guitar, piano, drums and other instruments
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work
  • Certified with Certification Board for Music Therapists

Responsibilities

  • Provide music assessment, treatment and discharge in accordance with ethical standards
  • Design musical interventions based on therapeutic goals to improve clients' psychological, emotional and social health
  • Provide music therapy sessions individually and in a group setting
  • Monitor clients during music interventions and measure the effectiveness of sessions
  • Maintain musical instruments
  • Comply with all applicable safety and health regulatory requirements
  • Participate in individual and team meetings focused on administrative, clinical and program development
  • Develop clinical conceptualization for collaboration with the multidisciplinary team
  • Provide clinical knowledge including the ability to adjust therapeutic style and interventions conducive to the development and maintenance of a therapeutic relationship with clients, families and supports
  • Be cognizant and respectful of cultural and socioeconomic characteristics of clients/family
  • Ensure a sound theoretical base and the ability to conceptualize and implement effective treatment for clients
  • Maintain professional boundaries with clients, families, supports, school and other Agency team members
  • Perform additional assignments as directed
