About The Position

Sonora Behavioral Health is Tucson’s leading behavioral health hospital with 140 beds. Our hospital serves children, adolescents, and adults in an acute hospital setting. We are seeking passionate, hard-working, and skilled individuals to join our team of professionals. PURPOSE STATEMENT: Plan, direct and implement music therapy programs as a component of the patient’s treatment plan .

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Recreational Therapy or related field required .
• Two or more years ’ experience in recreation in a healthcare setting with knowledge of patient population served by the facility is .
• CPR and de-escalation/restraint certification (training available upon hire and offered by facility).
• First aid may be based on state or facility.
• Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance Card required.

Nice To Haves

• Master ’s degree preferred.
• Ability to play one or more instrucment preferred.

Responsibilities

• Complete activity assessment through patient observation and patient/family interview, obtain information on the patient’s needs, skills, interests and limitations for the development and implementation of the treat plan.
• Plan, organize, direct and implement the musical activities within the treatment program to fa cilitate patient progress with treatment goals.
• Plan and implement a music program including but not limited to music leisure skills and activities, music education and music awareness.
• Facilitate and lead music sessions to improve patient mental and physical well-being.
• Instruct patients in musical activities and techniques, dance, o r relaxation techniques designed to meet their specific needs.
• Modify activities to suit the needs of specific groups.
• Demonstrate a positive, empathetic and professional attitude towards customers always.  When patient needs are not met, acknowledge and work to resolve complaints.  Recognize that patient safety is a top priority.
• Perform other functions and tasks as assigned.
