About The Position

TITLE:MUSIC TEACHER, General Music (Grades K-5) & Chorus, JOB GOAL:To develop in each student an appreciation of the art of music as part of the general culture; to teach instrumental techniques of music expressions; to discover and develop talents of students in the field of music; to develop knowledge and skills in music as referenced in the State Frameworks, National Standards and the Somerset Music Curriculum. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: I. Demonstrates currency in the curriculum. A. Demonstrates a working knowledge of the core curriculum in both Band and General Music. B. Frames curriculum around essential questions and key learning standards/concepts in Music that provide opportunities for reasoning, logic, analysis and synthesis when planning units, lessons, and assessments. C. Keeps current in the field of Music and applies knowledge to the instructional program. D.Contributes to the ongoing evaluation of the curriculum. II. Conducts effective planning and assessment of curriculum and instruction A. Effectively plans instruction and assessment in Music and monitors student's understanding of the curriculum. Adjusts instruction, materials, or assessments when appropriate. III.Manages the classroom environment and creates an atmosphere that is positive for student learning and involvement in Music. IV. Delivers instruction in Music effectively. A. The teacher makes learning goals of Music clear to students and uses instructional techniques appropriate for Music. B. The teacher uses a variety of teaching strategies, including cooperative, peer and project-based learning; audio-visual presentations, lecture, discussions and inquiry, practice and application; and the teaching of others. C.The teacher uses questioning techniques appropriate to Music. D. The teacher evaluates, tries innovative approaches, and refines instructional strategies, including the effective use of technologies, to increase student learning and confidence to learn. V. Promotes and communicates high standards and expectations in Music for student achievement. VI. Promotes equity and appreciation of diversity and strives to ensure equitable opportunities for student learning. A.The teacher demonstrates an appreciation for and sensitivity to the diversity among individuals. VII. Fulfills all professional responsibilities A. Cooperates in interactions with parents and is receptive to their contributions. B. Shares responsibility for accomplishing the goals and priorities of his/her grade/team/department, building and school district. C.Exercises reflection on teaching and education and embraces the concept of continuous learning. VIII.Completes any other duty or assignment as directed by the Principal or Coordinator of Fine and Performing Arts.
