About The Position

The Music Director will work closely with the priest at St. Anne to enhance the worship of the community according to the Church’s liturgical practice. This person will be responsible for selecting music for all liturgies, playing the organ and singing at Mass, and overseeing the training and coordination of any additional musicians and vocalists. In addition, the Music Director will be expected to help grow the music program by the establishing choirs for adults and children, leading cantors, and fostering participation among the faithful. This will be a full-time salaried position.

Requirements

  • Is an active member of the Roman Catholic Church.
  • Is competent with the organ, including a repertoire of music to be used for pre-/postludes, and has the ability to sing if no cantor is available.
  • Has experience leading choirs.
  • Is able to provide music at Mass which includes both contemporary and traditional selections, but includes Gregorian chant and use of the antiphons.
  • Is familiar with the Church’s teaching on music in the liturgy, especially as described in the documents Sacrosanctum Concilium ch. 6 (Second Vatican Council, Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy), Musicam Sacram (Second Vatican Council, Instruction on Music in the Liturgy), Tra le sollecitudini (Pope Pius X, Motu Proprio on Sacred Music), and Sing to the Lord: Music in Divine Worship (USCCB, 2007).
  • Is available to coordinate with funeral families and wedding couples regarding musical selections.
  • Must agree, upon acceptance of an offer of employment with St. Anne Parish, not to engage in, nor to endorse, any actions or beliefs contrary to the teaching and standards of the Roman Catholic faith and morality.
  • Must maintain strict confidentiality regarding any parish information gained within St. Anne Parish especially highly sensitive material such as protected Personally Identifiable Information and financial information.
  • Comply with federal, state, and company policies, procedures, and regulations.

Nice To Haves

  • Formal musical training or training in liturgical music is preferred.

Responsibilities
