About The Position

Museum Shop Manager, Full-Time, Exempt Why Join Us? Consider joining our creative and dynamic Museum Shop team! The Museum Shop Manager oversees the day-to-day operations of The Museum Shop, special exhibition exit shops, and E-store. They are responsible for implementing all procedures and policies to maximize revenue generation and create a welcoming retail environment. The Museum Shop Manager leads the visual merchandising process, ensuring that product selection connects with the Denver Art Museum’s collections and enhances the visitor experience. Schedule: Full-time work schedule that varies based on business needs and may include evenings, weekends, and holidays. Pay: The hiring salary range for the position is $60,000-$74,000 annually, based on experience. Requirements

  • A high School diploma or equivalent and previous retail experience (7+ years preferred)
  • Prior experience managing in a retail environment
  • Thorough retail operational sales knowledge
  • Thorough visual merchandising knowledge
  • Basic Math skills for handling cash and inventory
  • Ability to manage an operating budget, including staff salaries/payroll
  • Proven managerial skills and ability to serve as a strong team leader while working side-by-side with direct reports
  • Excellent customer service skills and ability to instill same in direct reports
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills
  • Professional demeanor under stress and complicated circumstances
  • People-oriented perspective with a focus on inclusiveness

Responsibilities

  • Bring the fun! Energize the shop with a positive attitude and contagious enthusiasm for staff and guests
  • Cultivate a positive and motivating Shop environment that inspires high morale, engagement, and long-term commitment from staff
  • Directly manage and collaborate with shop Associates, Leads, and Warehouse Specialist
  • Work with the Buyer and the Director of Retail in the execution of buying strategies and vison along with annual work plan and budget
  • Oversee all Shop operational and staffing plans, including completion of daily deposits, disbursement of cash drawers to cashiers, weekly schedules, daily opening and closing procedures, and completion of purchase orders
  • Assist leadership and the warehouse staff with the DAM’s E-Shop, including inventory discrepancies, shipping and receiving, and all aspects of customer service
  • Work with Director to develop visual merchandising strategies for The Shop, exhibition exit shops, and the E-Store that align with curatorial and DAM brand initiatives and support the visitor experience
  • Establish and models best practices by assisting visitors and staff in a consistently courteous, professional, and friendly manner
  • Lead hiring and training to meet institutional needs and foster a team culture that exemplifies the museum’s values, incorporates staff feedback, and supports professional development
  • Lead the yearly inventory process
  • Consistent usage of the Racial Equity Lens in day-to-day operations
  • This position may supervise role(s) that are covered by a Collective Bargaining Agreement with AFSCME-CWU.
