About The Position

Bellevue State Park is the former estate of William DuPont Jr and features remnants of leisured life in the Gilded age. A variety of seasonal Interpreter/Programming Park positions may be available at Bellevue State Park: Camp Director: $18.75 - responsible for leading and coordinating the day to day running of summer camps. This includes supervision of campers and staff, leading activities/lessons/games, coordinating travel around the park and to other locations, leading the counselor team and delegating tasks, and ensuring a safe and enjoyable environment for all staff and campers. This position is also responsible for communicating camp matters to supervisor, camp parents/guardians, and park/camp team members. Assistant Camp Director: $17.75 - responsible for assisting in the coordination of day to day running of summer camps. This includes supervision of campers, leading activities/lessons/games, assisting in coordinating travel as needed, and ensuring a safe and enjoyable environment for all staff and campers. This position is also responsible for communicating camp matters to supervisor, camp parents/guardians, and park/camp team members. For Camp positions - Monday through Friday will be needed throughout the camp season. Additional work on weekends, evenings and holidays may be scheduled. Park Interpreter: $16.00 - responsible for developing and conducting interpretive programs that will increase the public's awareness of their surrounding environment and foster the appreciation, enjoyment, and utilization of Delaware State Parks. Work is performed indoors and outdoors under various weather conditions. Applicants must be available to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as scheduled.

Requirements

Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:
Camp Director 1. At least 21 years of age. 2. One year experience working in a camp program for children or young adults. 3. One year experience in supervising groups, staff or volunteers. 4. Knowledge of various recreational activities such as hiking, mountain biking, boating, rock climbing or swimming. 5. Knowledge of local plants, animals or history. 6. Possession of a valid driver’s license (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).

Park Interpreter 1. Six months experience planning and delivering interpretive programs for adults and children. 2. Six months experience coordinating and promoting special events or initiatives. 3. Knowledge of public speaking or interpretation. 4. Knowledge of various recreational activities such as hiking, mountain biking, boating, rock climbing or swimming. 5. Knowledge of local plants, animals or history. 6. Possession of a valid driver's license (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).

Responsibilities

Lead educational and recreational activities focused on building lasting connections between campers (and other park visitors) and the natural and cultural resources around Bellevue State Park.
Help coordinate and implement summer day camp a Bellevue State Park.
Communicate with camp families (parent/guardians) about upcoming camps and what they need to prepare, daily happenings at camp, and any concerns that come up.
Lead and participate in games, crafts, and other day camp activities.
May deliver interpretive programs to participants of all ages in a variety of contexts.
Provide general customer service and park information to visitors.
Maintain a clean and tidy environment in all camp areas.
May lead educational and recreational hikes and other programs for park visitors.
Must demonstrate responsibility, dependability, and good communication skills.
Maintain a positive attitude.
Other duties as assigned.
