About The Position

Multicultural Affairs Student Assistant will provide general support to the Multicultural Initiatives Assistant Director and the Director of SS&E. This position assists in carrying out multicultural programs and activities, modeling leadership to other students, and maintaining the Office of Multicultural Affairs and the William Pope Wright Student Center. Duties include marketing and publicity, research, and offering creative input. The position will also provide office support including, but not limited to, greeting walk-ins, responding to emails, and scheduling appointments with professional staff. Additionally, this position will support initiatives within the Department of SS&E.

  • Must be able to work well as a team player and independently
  • Must have good organizational and customer service skills
  • Ability to work with diverse groups of students, staff and faculty regardless of age, gender identity, sexual identity, nationality, race, ethnicity, physical ability, and educational background or position
  • Ability to maintain positive and cooperative working relationships with faculty, staff, and students
  • Ability to use word processing software, Canva to produce flyers and other promotional materials
  • Ability and willingness to be flexible
  • Respect and understanding of confidentiality
  • Ability to work autonomously with supportive, but not constant, supervision
  • Detail oriented and be able to work through problems by using all available resources

Responsibilities

  • Staff front desk within the department
  • Provide office support including, but not limited greeting walk-ins, responding to emails, and scheduling appointments with professional staff
  • Assist with multicultural programs planning and promotion
  • Assist with data entry, recordkeeping, and tracking project or program information
  • Maintain and organize digital and physical files
  • Familiarize themselves with campus offices/programs and resources
  • Ensure the SS&E Centers, offices, and the Pope Student Center are clean, and furniture is in the appropriate place
  • Promote upcoming events and programs to campus and the community
  • Update information on SS&E centers and offices display boards
  • Maintain positive and cooperative working relationships with faculty, staff, and students
  • Maintain accurate records on OMA programs and activities
  • Monitor and restock office supplies
  • Aid students in using all resources offered through SS&E
  • Meet regularly with supervisor(s) to discuss projects and duties
  • Assist with achieving the mission of SS&E
  • Perform other duties as assigned
