About The Position

This position provides dedicated facilities maintenance and operations support for campus buildings and infrastructure, ensuring the safe, efficient, and continuous operation of building systems (including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and life-safety systems). The incumbent will perform preventive maintenance and repairs, respond to work orders, coordinate with contractors and vendors, and support campus events and operations. The role exists to maintain university standards of safety, comfort, and compliance, minimize downtime, and support the overall mission of the institution. Authority and Accountability Reports to: Keith J Brown - Building Trades Manager— name to be determined. Direct reports: None (individual contributor) — or as applicable, may supervise contractors or temporary staff. Budgetary responsibility: None (or limited to materials/supplies under maintenance request).Authority: Authorized to perform maintenance and repair tasks; coordinate with vendors/contractors under supervision; prioritize work orders as directed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • At least 3–5 years of journeyman-level experience in facilities maintenance (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, general building maintenance) or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of building systems, life-safety codes, preventive maintenance procedures, and facility safety practices.
  • Ability to read blueprints, building mechanical drawings, and preventive maintenance logs.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs., climb ladders/scaffolding, and perform physical tasks associated with maintenance.
  • Valid driver’s license if campus vehicle use is required.
  • Ability to respond to emergency maintenance calls (evenings/weekends) when needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Vocational/Technical certification (e.g., HVAC, electrical, plumbing, building maintenance).
  • Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and work-order tracking (e.g., experience similar to AIM Work Management System).
  • Prior experience in a higher-education facilities environment.
  • Familiarity with life-safety systems, campus-wide preventive maintenance programs, and regulatory/compliance requirements for facilities.
  • Good communication skills, ability to coordinate with vendors/contractors, and basic supervisory or vendor-management experience.
