Summary of Role: This hands-on mechanical design role will deliver industry leading electro-optical transceivers using GF’s Photonix platform and advanced packaging 2.5D and 3D co-packaged optics form factors meeting customer requirements. A successful candidate would possess product design and mechanical design expertise for photonic and electronic packages.

Requirements

  • MS, or PhD + 5 or more years of experience
  • Strong skills in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo) for 3D modeling and 2D drafting.
  • Solid understanding of mechanical engineering principles, including thermal and structural analysis.
  • Strong written and spoken English communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with opto-mechanical design, including lens mounting, optical alignment, and tolerance analysis.
  • Experience with Silicon Photonics and its integration into packaging is highly desirable.
  • Validated record of photonic and electrical interconnect innovation and product release internally or with an OSAT ecosystem.

Responsibilities

  • Creating mechanical designs for CPO products, including integrating PICs, EICs, substrates, and optical components.
  • Designing for manufacturability and yield, considering factors like assembly processes and material selection.
  • Creating detailed documentation, including BOMs (Bill of Materials) and drawings, for fabrication and assembly.
  • Collaborating with internal and external suppliers to ensure the final product meets specifications and performance requirements.

  • Working closely with cross-functional teams, including electrical, optical, and process engineers.
  • Ensures that all packaged products meet a standardized set of quality expectations by driving product packaging design reviews, materials selection and FMEAs of customer packaging concepts.
  • Drive CIP (Continuous improvement plans) incorporating new technologies to deliver organizational goals more efficiently and effectively.
