The Brigham Young University Security Department is dedicated to maintaining a safe and secure environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. This is achieved through collaboration with university administration, risk and emergency management, law enforcement, Title IX, CAPS, events, and housing. Security supports the campus community by promoting personal safety, crime prevention, hazard mitigation, respectful interactions, and ongoing staff development. The Security Specialist’s main role is to protect life and property while supporting all security operations. Responsibilities include patrolling, staffing security booths, following protocols, maintaining vehicles and equipment, reviewing reports, and ensuring timely communication up the chain of command. Security Specialists work in varied environments, both indoors and outdoors, and may face long hours, loud noise, extreme weather, and hazardous conditions. They may respond to emergencies such as crowd control, traffic incidents, chemical spills, and medical calls, often as first responders.
