Academic Employment Specialist (part-time 17.5 hrs/wk) As part of our response to university’s president’s call to focus on mission-aligned hiring, the BYU Psychology Department is seeking a detail-oriented, proactive Academic Employment Specialist! In this important role, you will suppport the hiring, onboarding, and compensation processes for adjunct faculty, affiliate faculty, and graduate students. This role also provides support for full-time faculty recruiting and ensures that all scheduled courses are staffed with qualified, cleared instructors. This part-time position offers flexibility, making it an excellent fit for candidates seeking adaptable scheduling. Expected weekly hours will be determined at the time of offer. Requirements

  • A firm commitment to the mission of BYU
  • Bachelor’s degree or 4 years of experience in a human resources or customer service environment, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Knowledge of HR best practices
  • Familiarity with or ability to quickly learn BYU’s hiring practices to recruit, hire, contract, and onboard all adjunct and affiliate faculty
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Strong spreadsheet skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and written
  • Ability to manage self well, handle pressure, and maintain confidentiality

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of experience in human resources.
  • Knowledge of HR systems utilized by BYU (i.e. Workday)
  • Awareness of laws and government regulations impacting HR programs
  • Familiarity with higher education

Responsibilities

  • Manage overall hiring, onboarding, and compensation processes for adjunct faculty, affiliate faculty, and graduate students.
  • Coordinate recruitment, including job requisitions, candidate communication, interviews, and contract processing.
  • Ensure all Psychology Department courses are staffed with cleared, qualified instructors well before each semester begins.
  • Assist with graduate student employment, including teaching assignments, administrative updates, and mentoring support.
  • Track student employment spending and collaborate with Business Manager to assess funding availability.
  • Conduct regular audits to ensure system hiring processes are accurate, timely, and compliant.
  • Support full-time faculty recruiting by posting external job ads, coordinating campus interviews, maintaining applicant records, and assisting with new faculty onboarding.
