About The Position

Clinical Social Work Supervisor – Rural Health Clinic Trinity Health Medical Group (THMG) Position Summary In coordination with THMG administrators and practice managers, the Clinical Social Work Supervisor develops, implements, and evaluates outpatient social work services within the Rural Health Clinic (RHC) designation of the Medical Group. This role ensures appropriate utilization of outpatient social work resources while delivering high‑quality psychotherapy services as a Clinical Social Worker (KL720). The Clinical Social Work Supervisor functions with a high level of independent judgment, utilizing advanced education and experience to enhance patient care and contribute to organizational planning, decision‑making, program development, and improvement initiatives. This position provides operational and clinical supervision to outpatient social work staff, including LLMSWs, LMSWs, and support staff assigned to the shift.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree from an accredited program in Clinical Social Work or Professional Counseling
  • Minimum of three (3) years of ambulatory social work experience serving similar patient populations
  • Progressive experience in healthcare settings, including: Direct patient care, Staff education, Personnel supervision, Unit or organizational problem‑solving
  • Fully licensed by the Michigan Board of Social Work as a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) with Clinical designation
  • Advanced critical thinking and analytical skills
  • Proven ability to identify opportunities for clinical and operational improvement and implement change constructively
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to mentor, coach, and develop staff
  • Demonstrates a positive, service‑oriented approach toward patients, colleagues, and external partners
  • Strong judgment in selecting appropriate courses of action among multiple options
  • Ability to interpret policies, assess outcomes, and support short‑ to mid‑range goal setting
  • Effective conflict resolution skills
  • Strong diplomacy, tact, communication, and active listening skills

Responsibilities

  • Communicates and collaborates with staff, clinical managers/directors, medical staff, clinical resource coordinators, and other personnel regarding clinical operations, patient flow, and staff development.
  • Manages day‑to‑day operations of an assigned clinical area, specialty, shift, or oversees operations across units.
  • Facilitates appropriate utilization of outpatient social work services across Rural Health Clinics.
  • Provides psychotherapy services as a Clinical Social Worker (KL720).
  • Supervises outpatient social work staff from an operational and clinical perspective.
  • Participates in hiring, onboarding, training, performance management, mentoring, and completion of performance evaluations for assigned staff.
  • Coordinates staffing, scheduling, and daily operational adjustments based on patient needs, available resources, and budgetary parameters.
  • Facilitates patient flow by identifying operational challenges and collaborating with leadership and clinical resource coordinators to implement solutions.
  • Assists clinical leaders in aligning staffing resources, clinical skills, and patient needs.
  • Serves as a clinical expert in assigned areas; identifies staff knowledge gaps and partners with educators and CNS teams to support professional development.
  • Initiates systems reviews to improve patient safety, quality, operational effectiveness, and efficiency.
  • Provides input into clinical and operational policies, procedures, and protocols in collaboration with management.
  • Monitors workflow quality and quantity to ensure completion of work and achievement of unit goals.
  • Develops daily, monthly, and yearly performance goals and metrics; assists in evaluating progress toward goal attainment.
  • Maintains clinical competency through ongoing professional development, literature review, and participation in conferences and seminars.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
