The MRI Technologist at Northwestern Medicine is a role focused on patient safety and producing high-quality diagnostic images within the MRI environment. Key responsibilities include maintaining patient safety throughout the entire MRI process, from screening and preparation to monitoring and post-procedure care. The technologist is expected to produce diagnostic-quality MRI images using approved protocols, applying professional judgment to optimize image quality and resolve challenges. This involves reviewing images for diagnostic adequacy and initiating corrective actions when necessary. The role also entails administering contrast in accordance with policy, including screening for contraindications, establishing IV access when required, monitoring patients, and responding to adverse events. The MRI Technologist is responsible for the safe operation of MRI equipment, ensuring the imaging room is always ready, and identifying and reporting equipment performance issues. They coordinate exam flow, prioritize time-sensitive studies, and maintain accurate and timely documentation in EPIC and Visage for exam setup, image routing, result availability, and charging accuracy. The position emphasizes upholding quality and safety standards, including MRI safety, infection prevention, and protecting patients, visitors, and team members. Furthermore, the technologist is expected to ensure a positive patient experience and support departmental initiatives aimed at improving relationships, reliability, efficiency, and growth, while also being prepared for additional responsibilities aligned with patient care and department needs.
