The MRI Technologist at Northwestern Medicine is responsible for upholding the organization's mission, vision, and values, adhering to the Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complying with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and regulatory standards. This role is accountable for ensuring patient safety throughout the entire imaging process, which includes screening, preparation, monitoring, and post-procedure care. The technologist is expected to produce diagnostic-quality images by following approved protocols and professional standards, using professional judgment to optimize image quality and resolve any imaging challenges. Key duties involve reviewing images before exam completion and initiating corrective actions if diagnostic adequacy is not met. The technologist will administer contrast agents according to policy, which includes screening for contraindications and patient monitoring. They are also responsible for operating and maintaining imaging equipment, ensuring the readiness of the imaging room, identifying equipment performance issues, and initiating follow-up through established service processes. Coordinating exam flow and prioritizing time-sensitive studies are also critical. Accurate and timely documentation in the medical record and image archive system, including exam setup, image routing, result availability, and charging accuracy, is required. The role demands adherence to organizational values, ethical standards, and compliance requirements, consistently upholding quality and safety standards such as radiation safety, MRI safety, and infection prevention measures to protect all individuals. The technologist is also expected to ensure a positive patient experience and support department initiatives aimed at improving relationships, reliability, efficiency, and growth. Specific to MRI, the technologist performs MRI safety screening, including implant and foreign body evaluation, ensures appropriate clearance before magnetic field exposure, and enforces controlled access and safe practices within the MRI environment. They administer contrast, including IV access when required, monitoring, and responding to adverse events, and maintain documentation in EPIC and Visage.
