About The Position

Works closely with radiologist to perform MRI examinations, contributing to the efficient operation of the department and promoting the philosophy, to ensure the quality and continuity of patient care. Maintains the standard of care delivered to infants, toddlers, preschool and school age children, adolescents, adults and geriatrics.

Requirements

  • Must be a graduate of approved School of Radiologic Technology with ARRT registration and State of Illinois License.
  • Must receive on-going formalized educational program for maintaining MRI competency.
  • One year’s experience as staff technologist.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Knowledge of cross sectional anatomy is preferred.
  • Ability to perform repetitive work according to set procedures, sequence and pace.

Responsibilities

  • Performs all duties of an MRI technologist as required in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrates competence and proficiency.
  • Identifies anatomical orientation on all required images and ensures proper film identification on all images and reviews each examination for technical accuracy, presents completed examination to radiologist.
  • Performs all required examinations.
  • Positions the patient and equipment.
  • Utilizes sterile techniques to prevent cross-contamination.
  • Selects proper format and technique.
  • Arranges required procedural accessories.
  • Utilizes all required diagnostic equipment to produce scans of diagnostic quality.
  • Performs volume of MRI procedures in a timely manner based on a departmental average.
  • Remains flexible in accepting rotating schedules as requested.
  • Contributes to the efficient operation of the department.
  • Maintains confidentiality of patients of all hospital-related information.
  • Maintains National and Illinois certification and attends in-services and educational programs to stay abreast of developing trends in the field of MRI.
  • Coordinates MRI exams with other sections of Radiology to ensure the quality and continuity of patient care.
  • Performs proper computer skills and shows working knowledge of patient orders, status charges and profiles.
  • Demonstrates the ability to organize patient care and set priorities by providing critical care first and by implementing the physician’s orders.
  • Maintains inventory to ensure proper quantity of supplies.
  • Monitors inventory of supplies, notifies appropriate supervisor when stock is low.
  • Assesses environment or safety hazards that could harm patient, visitors, or other hospital employees, and reports all hazards to appropriate supervisors immediately.
  • Screens patients, visitors and staff for MRI contradictions before exposing to magnetic field to ensure safety.
  • Assists in the instruction of student technologists to MRI scanning.
  • Performs other duties as required.
  • Is authorized to access and administer contrast media.
