About The Position

At NorthBay Health, the MRI Lead Technologist is an imaging technologist with demonstrated expertise and experience in magnetic resonance imaging, practicing in accordance with American College of Radiology (ACR) standards. Serving as a senior technical resource, the Lead Technologist works collaboratively with the Manager and department team to support the delivery of high‑quality, cost‑effective, and patient‑centered MRI services within established departmental budget guidelines. The role emphasizes advanced MRI technical expertise, adherence to ACR MRI safety practices, quality control and quality assurance activities, and support of compliance with all applicable regulatory, safety, and quality requirements. Responsibilities

  • Performs MRI examinations in accordance with established clinical protocols and departmental guidelines.
  • Prepares, assists, and instructs patients before and during MRI examinations to ensure understanding, comfort, and safety.
  • Evaluates completed studies to verify image quality and adherence to required clinical and technical standards.
  • Maintains responsibility for patient safety and well‑being throughout the MRI examination process, including screening and monitoring.
  • Inspects, prepares, and cleans MRI equipment and accessories prior to use in accordance with safety and infection control standards.
  • Identifies and reports contrast reactions or adverse events in accordance with quality assurance and safety policies.
  • Completes and organizes required documentation and imaging records in designated information systems, including iSite and Cerner.
  • Monitors compliance with Joint Commission and California Department of Public Health (CDPH) standards and communicates observations or concerns to management.
  • Addresses routine patient concerns within scope and refers significant concerns to leadership for appropriate follow‑up and documentation.
  • Coordinates and participates in departmental training related to MRI hardware and software upgrades.
  • Collaborates with the Site leadership and Medical Director to support timely preparation and submission of ACR MRI accreditation materials.
  • Serves as a professional liaison with referring physician offices through effective communication and collaboration with clinical staff and providers.
  • Identifies equipment performance issues, assists with troubleshooting, and facilitates communication related to repairs and preventive maintenance.
  • Supports efficient patient flow through collaboration with scheduling and clinical teams to optimize exam throughput.
  • Maintains adequate MRI supplies and assists with inventory tracking, ordering, and cost‑conscious utilization.
  • Reviews imaging studies for technical quality and provides constructive, practice‑based feedback to technologists as appropriate.
  • Reviews patient implants and devices for MRI safety compatibility and supports safe patient handling practices.
  • Provides education and support to technologists, external staff, and students regarding MRI safety principles and risk mitigation.
  • Promotes MRI safety for patients and staff by applying established safety guidelines, recommending scan modifications, and supporting implant safety determination processes.
  • Reviews MRI exam orders for protocol and scheduling accuracy under the guidance of the Medical Director or Supervising Radiologist.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned within scope of practice.
