About The Position

The MRI/CT Technologist supports both human and preclinical biomedical imaging at the Texas A&M Institute for Preclinical Studies (TIPS). Primary responsibilities include screening human participants for MRI and CT safety, administering contrast agents, and performing CT and MRI examinations in accordance with study protocols. These examinations encompass academic research scans involving human and animal subjects, as well as diagnostic imaging for athletes and community patients. The technologist also prepares pulse sequences and acquisition parameters in collaboration with investigators and clinicians, coordinates imaging data transfer, and assists the Director of the Human Imaging Facility with operational tasks such as scheduling studies and tracking scanner usage by individual researchers. Additional duties include training designated lab personnel to independently operate the MRI and CT systems, reviewing scans for incidental findings, conducting routine quality control procedures, and communicating with equipment manufacturers to facilitate repairs and maintenance as needed.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Completion of the two-year radiologic technology program, approved by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and holds a state of Texas state Medical Radiologic Technologist licensure.
  • Certified by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in Computed Tomography ARRT(CT) or the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board in Computed Tomography NMTCB(CT).
  • Certified by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in Magnetic Resonance Imaging ARRT(MR) or the American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (ARMRIT).

Nice To Haves

  • Baccalaureate degree in a relevant field (e.g., neuroscience, biomedical sciences, biology, physics, veterinary medicine).
  • At least two years of full-time (or part-time equivalent) experience conducting CT and MRI exams in a clinical or research setting.
  • Experience setting up and modifying scanner pulse sequences and acquisition parameters.
  • Familiarity with Siemens MRI systems and/or United Imaging CT systems.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain precision in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts safety screenings and performs CT and MRI exams in accordance with study and physician protocols.
  • Assists with preparing acquisition parameters and pulse sequences for CT and MRI studies.
  • Reviews research imaging for incidental findings and ensures appropriate documentation.
  • Trains designated lab personnel on the operation of CT and MRI systems.
  • Performs routine quality control scans and coordinates troubleshooting, repairs, and maintenance with equipment manufacturers.
  • Coordinates the secure transfer and management of imaging data.
  • Coordinates study scheduling and tracks scanner usage by individual investigators.
