Motorsports XiL Development Engineer

GMConcord, NC
3dHybrid

About The Position

The Development Engineer in the Motorsports XiL Engineering team will design, develop, and maintain tools for X-in-the-Loop (XiL) systems, with a strong focus on motorsports applications. This role requires expertise in integrating hardware and new technologies into simulation loops, working independently, and collaborating across multiple engineering disciplines to deliver high-performance solutions for motorsports simulation and vehicle dynamics.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.
  • 5 or more years of post-graduate industry experience
  • 3-5 years of experience developing tools for XiL systems (Driver-in-the-Loop, Hardware-in-the-Loop, Software-in-the-Loop).
  • Strong understanding of hardware integration (sensors, actuators, control units) into simulation loops.
  • Experience with real-time simulation platforms.
  • Proficiency in programming and scripting languages commonly used in simulation and tool development (e.g., MATLAB/Simulink, Python, C#).
  • Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and deliver results under tight timelines.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.
  • Proven experience in motorsports or high-performance automotive engineering environments.
  • Experience with driver behavior modeling and integration into vehicle dynamics simulations.
  • Familiarity with motorsports-specific systems (telemetry, race car electronics, simulation rigs).
  • Knowledge of haptics and/or advanced feedback systems in XiL environments.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain tools for XiL systems (Driver-in-the-Loop, Hardware-in-the-Loop, Software-in-the-Loop).
  • Integrate new hardware and emerging technologies into XiL environments to improve simulation fidelity.
  • Collaborate across disciplines including vehicle dynamics, controls, electronics, software, and simulation.
  • Work independently to scope, plan, and execute development tasks aligned with project goals.
  • Support testing, validation, and deployment of XiL systems in motorsports contexts.
  • Document processes, tools, and integration methods for reproducibility and knowledge transfer.
