About The Position

GM Motorsports is seeking a highly skilled Vehicle Dynamics Modeling Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of multibody vehicle dynamics modeling using acausal modeling frameworks. This role will be instrumental in developing and validating simulation models to support our motorsport programs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or related field.
  • Two or more years of post ‑ graduate industry experience; candidates with a Master’s or PhD and relevant experience will also be considered.
  • Experience in multibody vehicle dynamics simulation gained through university ‑ level FSAE, the automotive industry, or academic research.
  • In-depth understanding of various aspects of vehicle modeling, including suspension kinematics and advanced tire models.
  • Ability to program in Python, MATLAB or C++.
  • Familiarity with software development process – Git, code review, Continuous Integration (CI) / Continuous Deployment (CD) pipelines.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to develop models that can provide actionable insights for vehicle performance improvement.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to interact well with others.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and work schedules as required by motorsport demands.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or related field.
  • Expertise in developing accurate and numerically efficient complex multibody vehicle models in an acausal modeling framework.
  • Prior experience in Modelica and Dymola.
  • Familiarity with FMI standards and the use of FMUs in co-simulation and model exchange scenarios for simulation.
  • Experience optimizing simulation models for use in real-time Driver-in-the-Loop (DIL) simulators.
  • Knowledge of motorsport simulation tools and their practical applications in high-performance racing environments.
  • Demonstrated passion for creating highly accurate, numerically efficient models for motorsports.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain accurate and efficient multibody vehicle models using Modelica Libraries.
  • Collaborate with engineers and designers to define simulation requirements and validate model results.
  • Optimize simulation models for real-time Driver-in-the-Loop (DIL) applications.
  • Play a key role in the development of GM Motorsports Simulation toolchain.
