About The Position

Operates UF Transportation and Parking Services vehicles to provide transport for students, staff and visitors in a safe, efficient and courteous manner: Follows defined policies and procedures Utilizes department-provided equipment to communicate with dispatch, supervisors and fellow drivers while staying on schedule. Perform required pre-trip and post trip vehicle inspections and record ridership on tablets, keep the interior of the vehicle clean and inform supervisor of all needed repairs and maintenance. Assists with special event transportation and additional duties on an as-needed basis as directed by supervisor. Aids riders in need of embarking and disembarking assistance, including proper use of hydraulic lift for wheelchair riders. Current Florida commercial driver’s license A, B or C with passenger (P) endorsement Required. NORMAL WORK SCHEDULE: Normal work schedule is a 5-day, 40-hour work week Monday-Friday, with specific daily hours TBD depending on operational needs. Some flexibility may be required for Campus Connector requiring scheduled overtime and/or temporary schedule modifications to assist with coverage where other drivers may be unavailable. Additional flexibility may be required for other transportation services and special events requiring early or late appointments, weekend, holiday, and overnight travel or University events. Management retains the right to modify schedule and/or days as needed.

Requirements

  • Completion of ninth grade
  • One (1) year of relevant experience
  • Classified Driver License (CDL) may be required based on the type of vehicle operated
  • Current Florida commercial driver’s license A, B or C with passenger (P) endorsement Required

Nice To Haves

  • Previous professional driving experience with transporting passengers preferred
  • Skill in operating a large passenger vehicle in congested areas
  • Knowledge and skill in operating a wheelchair lift equipped disabled shuttle
  • Ability to maintain schedule on fixed route while performing multiple stops with pickup and drop-off of passengers
  • Safe driving record
  • Ability to recognize need for any vehicle maintenance
  • Knowledge of campus parking and transportation rules and regulations
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Self-motivated and able to work effectively with limited supervision
  • Ability to read and follow both written and verbal instructions and communicate effectively
  • Ability to use and operate Android and iPhone phones and tablets for scheduling purposes
