About The Position

Amentum, a global leader in critical mission support, engineering, technology, and national security solutions, is seeking a Transportation Motor Vehicle Mechanic to support a government contract based in Jacksonville, Florida at Mayport. This position involves performing duties described in the Service Contract Act Service Order Transportation Motor Vehicle Mechanic, and may also include duties of other classifications with an equal or lower pay rate. The core responsibility of the Motor Vehicle Mechanic is to repair, rebuild, or overhaul major assemblies of internal combustion automobiles, buses, trucks, or tractors. This work encompasses diagnosing the source of trouble, determining the extent of necessary repairs, replacing worn or broken parts (such as piston rings, bearings, or other engine components), grinding and adjusting valves, rebuilding carburetors, overhauling transmissions, and repairing fuel injection, lighting, and ignition systems. The role generally requires comprehensive training and experience, typically gained through a formal apprenticeship or an equivalent background.

Responsibilities

  • Repairs, rebuilds, or overhauls major assemblies of internal combustion automobiles, buses, trucks or tractors.
  • Diagnosing the source of trouble and determining the extent of repairs required.
  • Replacing worn or broken parts such as piston rings, bearings, or other engine parts.
  • Grinding and adjusting valves.
  • Rebuilding carburetors.
  • Overhauling transmissions.
  • Repairing fuel injection, lighting, and ignition systems.
  • Keeps equipment available for use by inspecting and testing vehicles; completing preventive maintenance such as, engine tune-ups, oil changes, tire rotation and changes, wheel balancing, replacing filters.
  • Maintains vehicle functional condition by listening to operator complaints; conducting inspections; repairing engine failures; repairing mechanical and electrical systems malfunctions; replacing parts and components; repairing body damage.
  • Verifies vehicle serviceability by conducting test drives; adjusting controls and systems.
  • Comply with state vehicle requirements by testing engine, safety, and combustion control standards.
  • Maintains vehicle appearance by cleaning, washing, and painting.
  • Maintains vehicle records by recording service and repairs.
  • Keeps shop equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs.
  • Keeps supplies ready by inventorying stock; placing orders; verifying receipt.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical publications.
  • Accomplishes maintenance and organization mission by completing related results as needed.
  • Performs GSA calls for approval of repairs.
  • Submits Purchase Requisitions to Material Expeditor.
  • Safely operate shop equipment.
  • Performs other duties as requested.
