About The Position

The Motor Vehicle Direct Client Service Specialist position is based in Montpelier, and is responsible for customer service and examiner work for the Department of Motor Vehicles. Duties include conducting road and CDL written examinations. Additionally, the incumbent will process registrations, license renewals, new licenses, duplicates, non-driver identifications, and proper calculation and collection of fees. This is not a remote position and work will take place within DMV offices. Although the full salary range for this position is provided, new hires are typically made at the salary range minimum.This position, Motor Vehicle Direct Client Service Specialist I (Job Requisition #54151), is open to all State employees and external applicants. Applicant will have the right to withdraw their applications before finger-printing and/or a background investigation is conducted.Environmental FactorsIncumbents must be able to work quickly and accurately under pressure before the public eye and from telephone inquiries. Due to significant public contact exposure to contagious illnesses is a daily risk. Incumbents must be able to multi-task and prioritize unpredictable workloads. Employees must be able to deal with confused, frustrated, and highly upset customers and handle large sums of money. Within the office setting, normal workplace conditions prevail. Occasional trips outdoors when verifying vehicle identification numbers. Incumbents must be able to perform several job duties within several different units possibly in the same day. The incumbent must be able to travel to other offices with minimal notice to assist when staffing shortages occur and various scheduled hours. Private means of transportation may be required. Overtime work may be required.

Requirements

  • Two (2) or more years of experience in a customer or client service role that includes significant public contact AND regular use of computer programs.
  • Six (6) months or more of work experience in the Vermont Department of Motor Vehicles.
