About The Position

The Mortgage Sales Assistant will provide support to high producing Senior Mortgage Loan Officer (SMLO) to assist in managing the member’s loan through the pipeline and allowing the Mortgage Loan Officer to spend more time prospecting and originating loans and less follow up after the application. Will act as the liaison between processing and the Senior Mortgage Loan Officer. This position must have basic knowledge of financial institution protocol as well as basic knowledge of the mortgage lending environment including federal and state regulations as well as VyStar policies and procedures. The Mortgage Sales Assistant reports directly to the VP of Mortgage Sales.

Requirements

  • The minimum formal education required is a high school diploma or its equivalent. Computer literacy is required.
  • 2+ years mortgage lending experience and familiar with the lending process, credit reporting, terminology, evaluation, and interest computation methods.
  • The successful candidate for this job must have excellent communication skills and should have the ability to interface effectively with members and staff to ensure smooth workflow and provide efficient service to members while staying abreast of changing policies and procedures.
  • Proficient in Word and Excel.
  • Candidate must be able to work independently on a very professional level.
  • Familiar with conventional and equity loan financing as well as a high-level knowledge of all regulations governing mortgage lending.
  • Specialized classes or training in mortgage lending beyond the high school level is required.
  • The employee must meet and maintain all the requirements as a registered mortgage loan originator employed by a Federally regulated Institution with the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System and Registry (NMLS).
  • The employee must comply with all provisions of the Act as defined in the Secure and Fair Enforcement of Mortgage Licensing Act of 2008 (S.A.F.E. Act) and credit union S.A.F.E. Act Procedures.
  • This position requires NMLS within 15 days of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Connect with the member after the SMLO has made the introduction and hand off.
  • Explain the Mortgage Sales Assistant’s role in the process and set expectations on how the process will work and the importance of getting missing documentation.
  • Review AUS findings if applicable and/or the conditions needed to submit the file for underwriting.
  • Confirm all services have been ordered and reviewed prior to submitting loan for UW review.
  • Complete all required checklists.
  • Communicate with the member and realtor if applicable on the following milestones: Application submitted. Loan approved and or need additional documentation after UW review. Review any other conditions needed to bring to Clear to close. Critical to determine what documents the processor will reach out on and what will you handle.
  • Confirm when appraisal is ordered and received.
  • Review appraisal to confirm it is AS IS and came in or above value.
  • Confirm when file is submitted for final review and is cleared to close.
  • Confirm closing date and review CD and/or have the Senior Mortgage Loan Officer review the CD.
  • Communicate and create a productive working relationship with the processor to maximize the efficiency and delivering a great experience for the member.
  • Create marketing flyers for open houses and or digital marketing in conjunction with your SMLO.
  • Review realtor websites for listings on realtors to create a potential partnership.
  • Conduct pipeline review with processing and report back to the SMLO so nothing falls through the cracks.
