Overall responsibilities: We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Mortgage Insurance Analyst to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the accurate and timely ordering of mortgage insurance certificates, rigorous validation of order details, and the technical configuration and maintenance of mortgage insurance plans within our system. This role is crucial in ensuring compliance, minimizing risk, and facilitating the seamless processing of mortgage loans. Strong client service skills are essential for effective collaboration with internal and external partners.

Requirements

  • High School diploma required, bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • 1-3 years of secondary marketing, capital markets, or financial analysis within the mortgage banking or financial services industry is preferred but not required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including a demonstrated commitment to client service and the ability to manage complex inquiries with tact and efficiency.
  • Proficiency with Excel (e.g., pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, financial functions). Experience with SQL or other data manipulation tools is a plus.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities with a keen eye for detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment and meet tight deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Order Management: Initiate and manage the process of ordering mortgage insurance (MI) certificates for new and existing loan applications.
  • Data Verification: Perform in-depth review and verification of all loan-related data ($e.g.,$ loan-to-value ratio, borrower information, coverage amount, premium structure) to ensure the accuracy of the MI certificate order.
  • Discrepancy Resolution: Promptly identify and resolve discrepancies, errors, or issues with MI carriers, underwriters, or loan officers to ensure accurate certificate issuance.
  • Document Control: Maintain organized and accessible electronic files for all MI certificates, commitment letters, and related correspondence.
  • Internal Support: Serve as a primary point of contact for loan officers, processors, and underwriters regarding MI requirements, plan eligibility, and system functionality.
  • Carrier Liaison: Effectively communicate with external mortgage insurance carriers to follow up on certificate orders, clarify complex scenarios, and resolve service issues promptly.
  • Professionalism: Maintain a high degree of professionalism and responsiveness in all interactions, providing clear, concise, and helpful information.
  • Plan Setup: Configure and build mortgage insurance plans within the loan origination system.
  • Rate and Rule Maintenance: Ensure all system-defined MI rates, rules, and logic align with current carrier guidelines, regulatory requirements, and company policies.
  • Testing and Deployment: Conduct thorough user acceptance testing (UAT) of new or modified MI plans and system configurations before deployment to production environments.
  • System Integrity: Partner with IT and systems administrators to maintain the integrity and functionality of the MI configuration module.
  • Regulatory Adherence: Ensure all MI processes and documentation comply with federal and state regulations, as well as investor and carrier requirements.
  • Audit Support: Assist in internal and external audits by providing requested MI documentation and process explanations.
  • Reporting: Generate reports on MI activity, premium trends, and common ordering errors to identify opportunities for process improvement.
